PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sabed Azbuhlev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katuro Tisoaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tisoaka has chosen Festivo as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sabed Azbuhlev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Katuro Tisoaka!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azbuhlev avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tisoaka has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Azbuhlev is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Tisoaka fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Azbuhlev, pushing him back against the ropes.
Azbuhlev misses with some punches.
Azbuhlev throws a punch but it's blocked by Tisoaka.
Tisoaka is struggling to control the position.
Still in the clinch, Azbuhlev scores with a nice short uppercut.
Tisoaka is trying to break free.

Tisoaka breaks from the clinch.

Tisoaka has closed the distance and engaged Azbuhlev in a clinch.
Tisoaka is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tisoaka throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Azbuhlev blocks it with crossed arms.
Tisoaka is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
A nice left hand lands by Azbuhlev.

The fighters are pressed against the ropes, as the pace of the fight slows.

Tisoaka's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Azbuhlev looking to score a takedown here. Tisoaka is defending well but Azbuhlev drives through and ends up in Tisoaka's guard.
Tisoaka is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tisoaka wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Azbuhlev tries to free his leg and advance position but Tisoaka is retaining full guard.

Tisoaka is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tisoaka is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Azbuhlev doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tisoaka.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Tisoaka seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Azbuhlev does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Azbuhlev wants to control but Tisoaka is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Tisoaka is working for a kimura but Azbuhlev is defending it quite comfortably.
Well, if Tisoaka is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Tisoaka lands a nice short elbow.
Azbuhlev is looking to control Tisoaka's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Azbuhlev avoid being mounted?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Azbuhlev is looking for a sweep. Tisoaka is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Azbuhlev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tisoaka is working away from the top position though.
Tisoaka is taking a breather. Azbuhlev says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Tisoaka misses with a body kick.
Tisoaka misses with a straight left.
As Tisoaka looks to move away, Azbuhlev throws a big counter combo bu Tisoaka just gets out of the way.
Azbuhlev blocks a jab.
Azbuhlev shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tisoaka defends it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Azbuhlev darts in looking for a takedown but Tisoaka gets double underhooks and turns Azbuhlev into the ropes.
Tisoaka tries to clinch but Azbuhlev moves out of range.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Katuro Tisoaka dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Tisoaka gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Azbuhlev to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Tisoaka is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Tisoaka looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Tisoaka seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Tisoaka wants to control the position but Azbuhlev says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tisoaka looks like he's trying to stand up.
Azbuhlev tries to pass to full mount but Tisoaka defends it.

Azbuhlev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tisoaka keeps working.

Tisoaka manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Azbuhlev keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the ropes.

Tisoaka tries to stall but Azbuhlev uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Tisoaka tries to circle away but Azbuhlev has him pinned against the ropes.
Azbuhlev misses with a short punch on the inside.

Tisoaka has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tisoaka blocks an uppercut.

Tisoaka escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tisoaka scores with a one two! Azbuhlev had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Sabed Azbuhlev has been cut.
Azbuhlev looks to score with a jab to the body but Tisoaka is just out of range.
Tisoaka lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Azbuhlev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Azbuhlev lands in his opponent's guard.
Tisoaka has Azbuhlev pulled in close to control his posture.

Tisoaka is edging up against the ropes. He's using the ropes to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Tisoaka breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Tisoaka clinches up with Azbuhlev and pushes him back against the ropes.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Tisoaka manages to break the clinch.
Azbuhlev blocks a head kick by Tisoaka.
Tisoaka stuffs the takedown attempt from Azbuhlev. Azbuhlev gets slowly back to his feet.
Azbuhlev shoots for a double leg takedown but Tisoaka sprawls well. He's pushed Azbuhlev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sabed Azbuhlev. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tisoaka moves into the clinch successfully.
Katuro Tisoaka seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Azbuhlev goes for a double leg but Tisoaka avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Tisoaka continues to drive forward.

Azbuhlev fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tisoaka to the ground. Azbuhlev is now in Tisoaka's guard.
Azbuhlev wants to stand but Tisoaka is controlling his posture from full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Tisoaka is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tisoaka moves into full mount! Azbuhlev won't be happy about that!

Tisoaka jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Azbuhlev is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Azbuhlev and Tisoaka has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Azbuhlev is not content to let Tisoaka control the position.

Tisoaka throwing strikes but Azbuhlev manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Azbuhlev wants to stand but Tisoaka has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

Tisoaka is looking for a triangle but Azbuhlev pushes his legs off easily.

Sabed Azbuhlev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Azbuhlev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Tisoaka is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Azbuhlev dives into side control.

You can see the frustration on Tisoaka's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Katuro Tisoaka is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tisoaka defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Azbuhlev.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sabed Azbuhlev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Azbuhlev dives in and grabs Tisoaka's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tisoaka pushes down on Azbuhlev's head and hops out.
Azbuhlev is looking to clinch.
Azbuhlev fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tisoaka throws a right and a left that Azbuhlev avoids nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Azbuhlev.
Katuro Tisoaka seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tisoaka lands with a cross.
Azbuhlev throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tisoaka's waist but Tisoaka gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Azbuhlev off to one side.
Tisoaka wants to counter the offense by Azbuhlev and move into the clinch position.
Tisoaka fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Azbuhlev has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Katuro Tisoaka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tisoaka winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
