Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grant Brophy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Wates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Grant Brophy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gary Wates!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wates misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A slapping leg kick lands for Brophy.
Brophy could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Brophy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wates moves away.
Brophy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wates.
Brophy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Wates gets tackled into the cage by Brophy. Brophy maintains the clinch.
Brophy is pressed up against the cage. Wates has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Brophy down to the mat. Brophy avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Wates tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wates shoots in looking for a takedown but Brophy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wates's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Grant Brophy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Wates.

Wates has had enough of the clinch but Brophy keeps him there for the moment.

Wates has had enough of the clinch but Brophy keeps him there for the moment.

Brophy swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Wates pulls guard effortlessly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wates seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Brophy wants to control from the top but Wates keeps moving.
Brophy is fighting to break Wates's control of his arms but Wates is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've been informed that Wates has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Wates tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brophy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Brophy scores with a punch to the head.
Brophy lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Brophy.
Wates takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Brophy misses with a low kick as Wates jumps back.
Brophy chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Wates will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Brophy feints and then cracks Wates's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Wates down.

Wates misses with a low kick.
Brophy throwing a counter right hand but Wates manages to avoid it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brophy scores with a one two! Wates had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Brophy rushes Wates and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Brophy can't find room to land a body shot as Wates controls the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Wates shoots in for a takedown but Brophy shows good takedown defense.
Wates tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Brophy defends well and Wates ends up having to push Brophy into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Brophy stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Brophy swings for the body but Wates moves out of range.
Brophy misses with a wild body shot.
Wates shoots for a takedown but Brophy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Grant Brophy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Wates.

Wates is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Brophy is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Brophy flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Wates anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Brophy and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Wates slips an arm under Brophy chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Wates has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Wates is squeezing on Brophy like an anaconda would it's prey. Brophy fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Gary Wates decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
