Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Reza Katebi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Simenkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reza Katebi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergei Simenkov!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katebi misses with a double jab
and Simenkov counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Katebi pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Simenkov back to the cage. Katebi follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Katebi seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Simenkov shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Simenkov thows a huge punch but Katebi dodges it nicely.

Katebi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Simenkov defends it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Katebi is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Katebi is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Simenkov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Simenkov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Katebi wants to sweep but no luck.
Simenkov tries to free his leg and advance position but Katebi is retaining full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Katebi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That was a close round but I would say that Reza Katebi will probably get the nod.

Katebi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Simenkov is just riding it out for now. Katebi eventually gives up the hold.

Simenkov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Katebi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Simenkov somewhat.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Simenkov cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Katebi wants to control but Simenkov is having none of it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
