PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Walker Christian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Lob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Walker Christian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Lob!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Ben Watson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Christian or perhaps it was just good defense by Lob, which made it look bad.
Christian tries to clinch there but Lob circles away.
Christian slips a jab and a cross from Lob.

Lob closes the distance and clinches.

Lob lands a takedown into guard.
Christian keeping moving, preventing Lob from controlling successfully.
Lob won't allow Christian to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Christian tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Christian seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Christian wants to get back to his feet but Lob is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lob stands and throws Christian's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Christian is trying to buck Lob off.
Christian tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lob wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Lob's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Christian scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Christian looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lob tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Christian defends well and Lob ends up having to push Christian into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lob takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Christian wants to clinch.

Christian struggles to land a body shot inside as Lob controls his hands.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Lob.
Lob tries to pull guard but Christian won't allow it.

Lob pulls Christian into guard.

Lob has his foot on Christian's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Christian works his way back into a safe position though.

Lob controlling the position.
Lob controls Christian momentarily but Christian frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Christian throws a strike but Lob rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lob wants to control from the top but Christian keeps moving.
Christian wants to stand up but Lob is controlling him.
Lob wants to stand but Christian is controlling his posture from full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lob trying to control the position from guard on top but Christian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Lob dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Christian is looking to clinch but Lob is avoiding it.

Lob shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Christian gets full guard.
Lob has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lob controlling from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Christian wants to sweep here but Lob controlling him for the moment.

Lob throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Christian works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Christian has managed to clinch.
Lob is trying to break the clinch but Christian has him pressed against the cage.
Lob wants a takedown but no success here.
Lob looking to stall.
Lob tries to pull guard but Christian forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Lob throws an elbow that misses.
Christian looking to stall.
Christian wants to break free but Lob has control.
Lob tries to circle away but Christian has him pinned against the cage.

Christian is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Lob stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
With the fighters up against the cage, Lob throws an elbow but misses.
Christian jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lob walks away with a smile on his face. Christian gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Lob throws a head kick that misses.

Lob scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Bob Lob has got the better of the ground game so far.

Christian is trying to get back to his feet.
Lob looks up at the clock and then as Christian takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Lob smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Christian manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lob's best efforts.
Christian is trying to stand.
Christian wants to control but Lob passes into side.
Christian manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lob is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Lob seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Lob showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Lob fails with a takedown attempt.
Christian stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Christian wants it to stay on the feet.
Lob swats away the attempt to clinch by Christian.
Lob shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Christian as he avoids it easily.
A little feinted left hand from Christian on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Walker Christian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Lob.
Christian dives in and grabs Lob's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lob pushes down on Christian's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Christian is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lob is controlling him.

Lob seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Christian is looking to stand back up but Lob counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Christian.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Christian is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Christian displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lob.
Christian moves out of range as Lob throws a body kick.
Christian drops down looking for a counter takedown but Lob sprawls and moves away.
Christian fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Christian managing to block the knees to the body from Lob.

Christian manages to pull guard.
Lob must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Christian keeping moving, preventing Lob from controlling successfully.

Lob is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Walker Christian.
Well Lob has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
