PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anthony Jones will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Jones!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Silva wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Silva looks like he's trying to stand up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Silva is trying to control but Jones manages to pass to mount!

Silva is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.

Jones swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Silva is now in Jones's guard. A big mistake from Jones there, giving up the dominant position!

Silva in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jones is pulling down on Silva's head to control his posture.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jones holds on and takes a little breather.

Jones trying to keep a closed guard but Silva is proving a slippery customer.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Silva throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jones works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva is looking to control Jones's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Silva avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Silva has worked his arm free - good work by Silva!
Silva can't do much from the bottom here.

Jones goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Silva rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Jones's guard! Nice work there by Silva!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing Silva from standing up.
Jones is controlling Silva's posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.

Jones wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Jones dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Silva, pushing him back against the cage.
Silva jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jones walks away with a smile on his face. Silva gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Anthony Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Jones raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Jones throws a half hearted mid kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Silva tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones tightens his grip and picks Silva up, before dumping him to the ground. Silva manages to land in guard.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Silva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Silva manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Silva's guard.

Jones drops back, looking for a kneebar! Silva looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Silva looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Silva!

Silva throwing strikes but Jones manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Silva gets back to half guard.
Silva trying to control here.
Jones missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Silva wants to get back to full guard.
Jones sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Silva defending well though.

Silva is not content to let Jones control the position.

Jones seems to be working for a kimura but Silva defends the submission attempt.
Silva trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Jones is working for a guillotine from mount but Silva frees his head quite easily.
Silva is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Silva holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Jones tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Jones goes for an armbar but Silva turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Silva.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Jones forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.

Jones drags the fight down to the ground.
Silva throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jones trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones throws an elbow that misses. Silva uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Silva!

Silva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jones wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones is trying to control the position but Silva postures up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Silva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jones throws a series of punches but Silva moves out of range.

Jones forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.

Jones breaks the clinch.

Silva gets caught napping as Jones dives in and scores a takedown. Silva manages to retain guard.

Jones is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Silva is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones controlling from the top position.
Silva wants to improve his position but instead Jones has moved into half guard.
Silva holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Silva is defending against the submission attempts here by Jones.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Silva looks like he's trying to stand up.
Silva tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
It looks like Jones is going to stand back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
