Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ike Acevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damoid Cope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damoid Cope has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ike Acevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damoid Cope!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Steve Montenegro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Acevedo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cope follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Cope darts in looking for a takedown but Acevedo gets double underhooks and turns Cope into the cage.
Cope fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Cope goes for a double leg but Acevedo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Acevedo continues to drive forward.
Ike Acevedo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damoid Cope.

Acevedo closes the distance and clinches.

Cope successfully pulls guard.
Cope wants to sweep here but Acevedo controlling him for the moment.
Acevedo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Acevedo drops back looking for a leg! Cope is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cope manages to kick Acevedo off! Acevedo jumps back into Cope's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Acevedo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Acevedo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Acevedo has gone for a leg lock! Cope slips out almost immediately though and dives into Acevedo's guard.

Cope looks for a takedown but Acevedo sprawls well.

Cope throws a lazy head kick
letting Acevedo counter with a right hand.
Acevedo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Acevedo throws a hook but Cope blocks it.

Cope shoots in and bounces Acevedo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Acevedo wants to stand up but Cope is controlling him.
Cope wants to control from the top but Acevedo keeps moving.
Acevedo wants to get back to his feet but Cope is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Acevedo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cope doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cope manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cope seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Acevedo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cope is controlling him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Acevedo is looking for a triangle but Cope pushes his legs off easily.

That was a close round but I would say that Ike Acevedo will probably get the nod.

Acevedo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cope's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Acevedo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cope looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cope looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cope!

Acevedo is trying to stand.

Acevedo has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Cope is on him like a limpet, forcing Acevedo back against the cage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cope throws a head kick that Acevedo semi-blocks.

letting Acevedo counter with a right hand.

Cope fails with a takedown attempt.
Cope lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cope.

Cope dives in and grabs Acevedo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Acevedo pushes down on Cope's head and hops out.
Cope tries for a takedown but Acevedo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Acevedo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cope to the mat! Cope manages to get full guard.

Cope utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Acevedo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cope dives on top into guard.


Acevedo pushes Cope off and scrambles back to his feet.
Acevedo leaves Cope with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ike Acevedo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damoid Cope.
Cope takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cope tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Acevedo swivels and escapes.
