PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kwame Akabaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derick Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akabaro comes to the cage accompanied by African Assassin - Mo Marah. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Derick Rose was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kwame Akabaro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derick Rose!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Akabaro gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rose is looking to take this one to the mat.
Akabaro gets underhooks to prevent Rose's takedown attempt.
Rose blocks a body shot from Akabaro.
Akabaro working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Akabaro lands with a light punch inside.
We've been informed that Rose has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Rose looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Kwame Akabaro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Akabaro on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Rose connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Akabaro's hands.
Akabaro looks to land a body kick but Rose moved away.

Nice uppercut lands for Akabaro. That snapped Rose's head back.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rose's jab looks to have found its range, popping Akabaro under the eye.
Akabaro feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rose's calf.

Rose shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Akabaro manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Rose misses with a head shot. Akabaro uses the momentum to regain guard.
Rose trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rose working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rose stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Akabaro swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Akabaro bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rose's guard.

Rose has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Akabaro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rose swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rose is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Akabaro wants to control from the top but Rose keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Rose throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Akabaro sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Akabaro throws a counter high kick but Rose was just alert enough to avoid it.
Rose connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Akabaro steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rose.
Akabaro slips under a jab.
Akabaro swings for the body but Rose moves out of range.
Akabaro throws a head kick that misses.

Akabaro fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
A slow jab from Rose misses its intended target.
Rose goes for a double leg but Akabaro avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Akabaro continues to drive forward.
Akabaro displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rose.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That kick from Akabaro tenderised Rose's leg. Rose is trying to keep his angry face on.
Akabaro throws a series of punches but Rose moves out of range.
No luck for Rose with that takedown attempt.
It looked like Akabaro was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Rose throws a shot from downtown. Akabaro moves away and avoids it.

Rose is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Akabaro sees it coming and defends easily.
Akabaro makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Akabaro.
Rose tries to free his leg and advance position but Akabaro is retaining full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rose lands a couple of elbows.

Rose drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Akabaro dives on top into guard.

Akabaro wants to stand but Rose has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Rose is pulling down on Akabaro's head. It's preventing any offense from Akabaro, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Akabaro tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rose manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rose shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Akabaro's guard.

Rose shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Akabaro defends it nicely.

Akabaro tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Akabaro's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rose connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Akabaro scrambles back to his feet.

No joy there for Akabaro, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Akabaro ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Akabaro doesn't manage to clinch there - Rose circles away.
Rose with the counter takedown but Akabaro avoids it easily.
Akabaro displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rose throws out the jab.
Nice straight punches there by Akabaro. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Akabaro.
Rose darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Good leg kick by Akabaro there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Rose cracks Akabaro with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

A little jabbing left from Rose on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kwame Akabaro is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Akabaro jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Akabaro catches Rose with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Derick Rose has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rose shoots in but no luck this time.

Akabaro throws a half hearted mid kick.
Akabaro fails in his attempt to clinch.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rose! But no joy.

Rose might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Rose wants to pass the guard but Akabaro is keeping the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kwame Akabaro.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Akabaro, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
