PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick McWhiskey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keiji Mutou (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McWhiskey kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪. On his way into the cage it seems that Patrick McWhiskey has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Patrick McWhiskey seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick McWhiskey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Keiji Mutou!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McWhiskey lunges at Mutou with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Mutou's hand.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mutou has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
McWhiskey misses the shot to the body.
McWhiskey tries a low kick but Mutou avoids it.
Mutou is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
McWhiskey ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Patrick McWhiskey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McWhiskey misses with an uppercut. Mutou saw that one coming.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McWhiskey takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Mutou wants to lay and pray for a moment but McWhiskey keeps working.

Mutou postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
You can see the frustration on McWhiskey's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A lull in the action here as Mutou stalls from top position.
Mutou scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at McWhiskey to see if he's OK.
Mutou is looking to take a break and control but McWhiskey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mutou cracks McWhiskey with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The referee asks Mutou politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mutou prefers to stall for the moment though.
McWhiskey is looking for a sweep.

McWhiskey takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

McWhiskey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mutou wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

McWhiskey is trying to control Mutou's posture but Mutou avoids it.
McWhiskey is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mutou off and has taken his back!

That's time! McWhiskey's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mutou accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

McWhiskey is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mutou defends well.

McWhiskey is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mutou lands a couple of digs.
Mutou wants to control from the top but McWhiskey keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McWhiskey is trying to control the position but Mutou postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Mutou counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Mutou takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
