PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Albert Carrillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Pual (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Albert Carrillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Pual!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carrillo checks a low kick from Pual.
Carrillo lands the left hand.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pual is defended easily by Carrillo.
Pual tries for a takedown but Carrillo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
As Pual looks to move away, Carrillo throws a big counter combo bu Pual just gets out of the way.
Carrillo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pual wants to clinch up but Carrillo keeps it at a distance.

Pual looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Pual winds up and cracks Carrillo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carrillo is refusing to be controlled, as Pual sits in half guard.

Pual decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pual doesn't manage to clinch there - Carrillo circles away.

Pual tries to keep at a distance but Carrillo has taken the fight into the clinch.
A body shot lands from Carrillo.
Pual is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Pual is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Albert Carrillo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Pual.
Pual is trying to pull guard but Carrillo turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Pual looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carrillo stops a takedown attempt from Pual.
Carrillo is stalling here.
Pual is looking for a takedown.

Pual tightens his grip and picks Carrillo up, before dumping him to the ground. Carrillo manages to land in guard.
Carrillo looking for a sweep. Not yet Carrillo, not yet.
Pual passes Carrillo's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Pual lands strikes from half guard.

Carrillo looks like he's trying to stand up.
Pual slows the pace down in half guard.
It looks like Pual might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pual landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Carrillo tries to roll over but Pual keeps him under control.
Pual is pressing down on Carrillo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carrillo is holding on for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Carrillo kicks off Pual and gets to his feet.

Pual closes the distance and clinches.
Pual is looking to take this one to the mat.
Pual goes for a takedown attempt but Carrillo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Carrillo avoids the head kick by Pual.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Carrillo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pual to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Pual looks winded!

Carrillo pushes Pual off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Pual will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carrillo closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Pual wants to clinch

and Carrillo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pual won't be happy with that.
Carrillo working away.

Carrillo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Nice takedown defense from Carrillo. No joy for Pual on that attempt.
Carrillo is looking for a counter combo.
Carrillo tries to clinch up.
Pual misses with a head kick.
Pual wants to clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Carrillo blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Carrillo looking for a takedown.
Carrillo is looking to break free of the clinch but Pual has double underhooks.

Pual tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Carrillo smiles and moves away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Pual throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A head kick from Carrillo lands but Pual takes it in his stride.
Pual misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Carrillo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pual as he jumps to the side.
Pual shoots in and drives through. Carrillo sprawls well.
Albert Carrillo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Pual.
No luck for Carrillo with that takedown attempt.
Carrillo lands a slapping body shot.
Pual fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Pual is breathing heavily.
Carrillo tries to clinch up.
As Carrillo backs off Pual throws a huge counter combo but Carrillo manages to avoid it all.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Pual just misses with a elbow thrown towards Carrillo's brow.
Pual can't break the clinch.
Carrillo is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Pual changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Carrillo fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Carrillo tries to close the distance and clinch but Pual swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pual displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Carrillo.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carrillo scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Carrillo clinches up against the cage.

Pual pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pual swats away the attempt to clinch by Carrillo.
Pual is trying to counter with his kicks.
Pual throws a head kick that misses.
Carrillo appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Carrillo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pual wants to control from the top but Carrillo keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Albert Carrillo dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


A head kick by Pual misses

and Carrillo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pual's guard.
Carrillo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carrillo is looking to stand up but Pual won't let him.
Pual tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Carrillo throws a big elbow that misses.
Pual wants to stand up but Carrillo is controlling him.
Carrillo wanted to stand there but Pual had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pual keeping full guard, as Carrillo tries to pass.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Pual is pulling down on Carrillo's head. It's preventing any offense from Carrillo, at least for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Carrillo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Pual throws out the jab.
Pual misses with a kick to the body
and Carrillo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Pual throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Carrillo tries to counter by clinching up but Pual breaks away and moves out of range.
Pual takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Carrillo dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pual darts in looking for a takedown but Carrillo gets double underhooks and turns Pual into the cage.
Pual stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pual wants it to stay on the feet.
Carrillo slaps away a takedown attempt from Pual, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Carrillo manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pual on his heels. He'll look to pass Pual's guard now, I'm sure.
Carrillo throws a big elbow that misses.

Carrillo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Carrillo postures up in Pual's guard and throws a big left but Pual blocks it.
Carrillo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pual on the ground.
Carrillo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Pual is working an open guard so Carrillo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Pual shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carrillo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pual trying to control but Carrillo is working from the bottom.
Pual won't allow Carrillo to get back to his feet.

Carrillo pushes Pual off and gets back to his feet.
Pual takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Pual shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carrillo pinned against the cage. Carrillo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Carrillo lands a high kick!

Carrillo has managed to clinch.
Pual jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carrillo walks away with a smile on his face. Pual gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Pual throws a sloppy head kick and Carrillo moves out of range easily.
Chris Pual seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pual stuffs the takedown.
Carrillo throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Carrillo feints a jab promting Pual to slip. Carrillo then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Pual slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pual wants to clinch

and Carrillo counters with a takedown into side control.
Pual is looking to get back to his feet here but Carrillo is keeping cool and he's managed to take Pual's back.
Carrillo tries to keep control of the position but Pual is staying busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Albert Carrillo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Carrillo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
