PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ben Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stefan Kung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stefan Kung told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Simpson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stefan Kung!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Simpson gets a clinch.
Kung lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Simpson or not.
Kung tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Simpson's elbow.
Kung goes for a takedown in the clinch but Simpson prevents it.
Simpson prevents the takedown attempt.
Kung misses with a punch to the body.

Kung lands a takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kung wants to pass the guard but Simpson is keeping the position.
Kung wants to control from the top but Simpson keeps moving.
Simpson wants to get back to his feet but Kung is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kung working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Kung wants to control from the top but Simpson keeps moving.
Kung throws a strike but Simpson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Simpson is in close to Kung's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Kung has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Simpson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kung is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Simpson is aware though and is defending well.
Simpson connects with a couple of short punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Simpson wants to stand but Kung has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Kung working for a triangle but Simpson defends it easily.
Simpson throwing strikes but missing.
Simpson trying to control the position from guard on top but Kung is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kung is trying to control the position but Simpson postures up.

Simpson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Kung defending well as Simpson loads up on a big left hand.
Kung changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Kung manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Simpson on his heels. He'll look to pass Simpson's guard now, I'm sure.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kung engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Simpson scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Simpson throws a sloppy head kick

so Kung counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kung wants to control from the top but Simpson keeps moving.
Kung keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Simpson's head.

Kung content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Simpson has locked up a guillotine! Simpson's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Kung is holding on here and Simpson must be using up a lot of energy. Kung has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Simpson gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ben Simpson!
A relieved looking Ben Simpson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
