PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chico Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robb Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chico Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robb Stark!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stark tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sanchez was well out of range. Poor timing from Stark.
A clash of legs there as Sanchez blocks the low kick.
Sanchez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Stark. That did some damage!
Stark misses with a low kick as Sanchez jumps back.
Sanchez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stark circles away.
A little jabbing left from Stark on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sanchez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Sanchez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sanchez avoids the elbow strike from Stark, against the cage.

Sanchez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Stark misses with a low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sanchez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Stark did well to prevent Sanchez getting side control.
Stark wants to control but Sanchez is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sanchez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stark keeps working.

Sanchez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Stark has one foot on Sanchez's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
We've been informed that Stark has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

A bone on bone clash there as Stark blocks the leg kick.
Sanchez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sanchez tries to counter by clinching up but Stark breaks away and moves out of range.
Chico Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sanchez clinches with his opponent.
Stark looking to stall.
Sanchez misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Stark.

Sanchez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stark paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sanchez shoots in and drives through. Stark sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chico Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanchez is looking to clinch but Stark is avoiding it.

Stark lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Stark throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt - Stark sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sanchez was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Sanchez drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Stark keeps moving.
Stark looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sanchez is one step ahead there.
Sanchez passes easily into side control. Nice work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chico Sanchez will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Sanchez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Stark keeping moving, preventing Sanchez from controlling successfully.
Stark tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Chico Sanchez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Stark is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sanchez seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stark is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
You can see the frustration on Sanchez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Stark tries to bum rush Sanchez with a series of wild strikes but Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Sanchez counters with a stiff right hand.
Robb Stark is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sanchez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Stark cracks the inside of Sanchez's front leg.
Stark does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Sanchez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Stark sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

A quick step to the side and Sanchez tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Sanchez went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Stark throws a jab when Sanchez was well out of range.
Sanchez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Stark.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sanchez gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Stark lands an elbow that stopped Sanchez in his tracks for a moment.
Stark throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Sanchez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stark checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Stark stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stark wants it to stay on the feet.

Stark displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sanchez.

Robb Stark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Sanchez is looking to take a break and control but Stark is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Sanchez clinches up with Stark and pushes him back against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stark keeps control of Sanchez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sanchez avoiding damage as Stark throws knees to the body.
Stark comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Stark creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Sanchez wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Stark putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Sanchez in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Stark waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sanchez.
Stark stalks Sanchez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sanchez's face. Sanchez staggers backwards, shaken.
Stark lands a head shot.
Stark lands a leg kick that knocks Sanchez off balance momentarily.

Stark manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Stark lands a good knee to the midsection. Sanchez won't want to take too many of those.

Sanchez manages to break the clinch.
Sanchez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stark moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stark fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sanchez.
Sanchez moves into range and connects with a jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As Stark looks to move away, Sanchez throws a big counter combo bu Stark just gets out of the way.

Robb Stark comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stark has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
