PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Odell Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Foxo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Odell Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steve Foxo!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Foxo instigates a clinch.
Foxo is looking to control Castillo's arms but Castillo gets an underhook and turns him. Now Foxo has his back to the cage.
Foxo looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Foxo lands a shot to the body.
Castillo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Castillo misses with a punch to the body.
Castillo throws an elbow but it misses.
Foxo will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Castillo up against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Castillo is trying to maintain a safe position but Foxo gets an underhook and turns Castillo into the cage.
Castillo slows down the pace here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Castillo creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Foxo lands a left hand.
Foxo lands a nice uppercut.
Foxo is leaning against Castillo and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Castillo is trying to stall.
Castillo is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Castillo prevents Foxo from breaking the clinch.
Foxo is stalling here.
Foxo makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Castillo keeps control of Foxo as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Foxo managing to block the knees to the body from Castillo.
Foxo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Come on Castillo - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Castillo is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Castillo is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Castillo seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Foxo is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.
Foxo tries to break free but Castillo pushes him back against the cage.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Odell Castillo.
Foxo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Castillo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Foxo shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Castillo trying to hold on to Foxo's head to control him but Foxo postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Castillo is controlling Foxo's trapped leg to prevent Foxo from advancing to side control.
Foxo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Castillo keeps working.

Foxo decides to stand and escape the position.
Foxo lands with a nice combination. Castillo backs away looking to recover.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Castillo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Despite the aggression on Foxo's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Foxo stuffs the takedown attempt from Castillo. Castillo gets slowly back to his feet.
Foxo is looking for the big counter here.

Foxo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Foxo wants to control but Castillo is keeping him busy.

Foxo tries for a kimura but Castillo is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Foxo stands up and we're back to a striking position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Foxo dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

It looks like Odell Castillo has been cut.
Foxo feints with a jab and clips Castillo right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Castillo is sent crashing into the canvas and Foxo leaps in for the kill! Castillo tries to get to his feet but Foxo is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Castillo is in need of a savior and steps in!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Foxo!
