PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Conor McGregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stefan Katzin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGregor comes to the cage accompanied by Music Foggy Dew – Hypnotize. Stefan Katzin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Stefan Katzin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Steven Brown and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katzin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McGregor.
Katzin appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Crunch! Katzin slams his shin into McGregor's torso.
McGregor has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Katzin.

McGregor moves into range and clinches up with Katzin.
McGregor goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
McGregor lands a right hand.
McGregor keeps control of Katzin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Katzin has had enough of the clinch but McGregor keeps him there for the moment.

Katzin has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Katzin thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on McGregor if he has to take too many more of those.

Katzin goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

McGregor dives in and grabs Katzin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Katzin pushes down on McGregor's head and hops out.

Katzin throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by McGregor.
McGregor is looking to clinch but Katzin is avoiding it.
Katzin lands with a slapping head kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGregor tries to close the distance and clinch but Katzin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Katzin throws a front kick that sends McGregor stumbling back into the cage.

Katzin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McGregor moves to clinch but Katzin breaks away
and Katzin counters with a body kick that stops McGregor in his tracks momentarily.
Katzin keeps McGregor at a distance using the push kick.
McGregor fails with an attempt to clinch.
Katzin goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
McGregor shoots in and drives through. Katzin sprawls well.
Katzin counters with a body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conor McGregor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGregor avoids the head kick by Katzin.
Katzin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McGregor.
Katzin feints and then cracks McGregor's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow McGregor down.

and Katzin counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. McGregor is lucky that one didn't land flush.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Katzin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Katzin throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Katzin circles away from the clinch attempt.
McGregor tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Katzin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Katzin fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt McGregor.

Stefan Katzin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Katzin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGregor takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Conor McGregor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

McGregor shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Katzin defends it nicely.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! McGregor crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Katzin - the referee stops the clock and McGregor gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Katzin. McGregor manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

and Katzin counters with a flying knee that drops McGregor! Katzin dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!
