And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 wins, 4 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of New York, Sam Ponjev!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ponjev has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ponjev there as he acknowledges the shot.
Ponjev cracks Pinto with a good jab.

Ponjev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pinto avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ponjev.
Ponjev misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Ponjev looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ponjev misses with the ground and pound.
Pinto can't do much from the bottom here.

Ponjev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

You can see the frustration on Pinto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ponjev goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Pinto has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ponjev but great work by Pinto.

Pinto decides to stand back up. Pinto steps back and let's Ponjev get back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Pinto counters with a three punch combo that has Ponjev backing up. Ponjev nods at Pinto to acknowledge the strikes.
Pinto paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Pinto moves out of range of the strikes.
Pinto thuds his right hand into Ponjev's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Ponjev is rocked!
Sam Ponjev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ponjev blocks a jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


The fighters circling - Ponjev throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Pinto throws a jab when Ponjev was well out of range.

Arthur Pinto is winning the standup battle so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ponjev tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pinto defends well and Ponjev ends up having to push Pinto into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Pinto throws the left hand but Ponjev avoids the punch easily.

Pinto throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ponjev sees it coming and avoids it easily.

It looks like Arthur Pinto has been cut.
Pinto fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Ponjev swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Pinto lands with an uppercut that bounces Ponjev off the cage and back into range.

and Pinto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ponjev changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Ponjev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Pinto scores with a counter punch that sends Ponjev to the canvas! Pinto smells blood - he's punishing Ponjev with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Ponjev has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

A very excited looking Arthur Pinto rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
