Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yury Vesnev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommie Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gunn has chosen Don't Shoot Shotgun as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Yury Vesnev has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Yury Vesnev seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vesnev moves out of range of the strikes.
Vesnev lands a nice shot that snaps Gunn's head back.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gunn.
Vesnev jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Vesnev throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gunn sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Vesnev lands with a good body shot.
Vesnev misses with a body shot.
Gunn dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Vesnev. That did some damage!

Vesnev tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Gunn is able to avoid easily.
Gunn ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Gunn stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Gunn moves out of range as Vesnev throws a body kick.
Jab, jab by Vesnev - just one landing.
Gunn dives in for a single leg takedown but Vesnev sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Gunn tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Vesnev is able to avoid easily.
Vesnev does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Vesnev looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gunn takes a jab right on the kisser.

Vesnev takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Gunn ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vesnev moves away.
Gunn misses with a two punch combination.
Vesnev takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vesnev swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Vesnev displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gunn throws out the jab.
Gunn misses with a looping right.
Yury Vesnev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gunn takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Vesnev throws a sloppy body shot
and Gunn counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Vesnev thinking.
Gunn misses with a straight right.
Vesnev gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Gunn lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Vesnev fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gunn has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Vesnev takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Vesnev bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Vesnev ducks under a wild hook from Gunn.
Vesnev scores with a hook to the body. Gunn takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Gunn checks the leg kick nicely there.
Gunn tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Gunn throws out a leg kick but Vesnev moves out of range and Gunn only half commits.

and Vesnev counters with a single leg into guard. Gunn didn't expect that.
Yury Vesnev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommie Gunn.

Vesnev postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Vesnev working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gunn's head.
Gunn keeping moving, preventing Vesnev from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vesnev is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gunn is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vesnev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gunn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Vesnev is one step ahead there.

Vesnev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gunn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gunn wants to sweep but no luck.
Vesnev throws a big elbow that misses.
Gunn keeping moving, preventing Vesnev from controlling successfully.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Vesnev scoring with punches to the head and body.
Vesnev has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vesnev wants to control from the top but Gunn keeps moving.
Vesnev trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Vesnev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gunn cracks Vesnev with an open hand slap.
Vesnev fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gunn is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Vesnev with a body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yury Vesnev will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Gunn throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Vesnev swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Gunn.

Gunn is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Vesnev holds on and takes a little breather.
