The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Axe has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Holmes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Axe.

Axe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Axe takes a swing at Holmes's ribcage but misses.

Holmes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Axe tries to avoid it but Holmes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Axe to the ground. Axe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Holmes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Axe napping and manages to drive through into side control!

As Axe looks to move away, Holmes throws a big counter combo bu Axe just gets out of the way.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Holmes manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Holmes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Axe walks away with a smile on his face. Holmes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Holmes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Axe uses from the top position.

Holmes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
