Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Byrne!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jonathan Paton and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bear throws an overhand right that lands on Byrne's shoulder, as Byrne tries to avoid the shot.
Bear misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Byrne cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A big left from Bear misses.

Bear shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bear has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bear cracks Byrne with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bear punching from mount but Byrne doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Bear connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Byrne is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Byrne avoids a series of strikes thrown by Bear.
Byrne is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bear postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Byrne looks a forlorn figure.
Bear throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Byrne because Bear loaded up on that one.
Bear is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Byrne felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Byrne avoids a series of strikes thrown by Bear.
Byrne is working to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bear cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bear fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!


Byrne is rocked!
Byrne tries to reverse the position but Bear maintains control.
Bear lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Byrne! Bear sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Byrne and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Bernard Bear!
