PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Splinter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Puetz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob Puetz has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jack Splinter's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jack Splinter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Puetz !
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Splinter has taken the fight to the clinch.
Puetz has Splinter pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Splinter manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Puetz keeps control of Splinter as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Splinter jumps guard.
Puetz won't allow Splinter to get back to his feet.
Splinter trying to control the position.
Puetz throws a big elbow that misses.
Puetz lands a couple of elbows.
Puetz controlling from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puetz preventing the sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Puetz works over Splinter with some ground and pound from guard.
Puetz connects with a couple of short punches.
Puetz postures up and lands a big shot to Splinter's brow.
Puetz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Splinter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Puetz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Puetz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
It looks like Puetz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Splinter working for submissions but it's allowed Puetz to get to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Puetz wants to work for an arm triangle but Splinter is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Splinter is trying to maintain the position but Puetz is very close to passing his half guard.
Puetz slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Puetz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Puetz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Splinter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Puetz .
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Puetz in particular looking to stall.
Splinter could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Puetz winds up and cracks Splinter with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Puetz scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Splinter wants to improve his position but Puetz is controlling well.
Puetz is pressing down on Splinter's thigh, looking to free his foot. Splinter is holding on for now.
Puetz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Puetz connects with a nice short shot to Splinter's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Puetz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Ground and pound from Puetz .

Puetz is working for a submission of some sort.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Puetz uses his free foot to push down on Splinter's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Splinter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Puetz dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


A good leg kick by Splinter.
Splinter tries to clinch up

and Puetz counters with a takedown into side control.
Puetz works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Splinter takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Bob Puetz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Puetz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Splinter keeps working.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Splinter is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Puetz is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Puetz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


Splinter is rocked!
Puetz softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Splinter is out cold! Puetz jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bob Puetz !
