PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Krause (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamari Caram (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krause comes into the arena with Heart of a Champion blaring out of the sound system. James Krause has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Krause!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jamari Caram!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caram throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Krause's head.


It looks like James Krause has been cut.
Caram cracks the inside of Krause's front leg.
A nice inside leg kick there by Caram. That's going to slow Krause down.
Caram lands a body shot.
Caram looks for the body kick but Krause saw that one coming.
Caram stuffs the takedown.
Caram wants to counter with a clinch but Krause pushes him away.
Caram pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Caram gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Caram lands a right hand.
Caram tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Krause is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Caram to keep the fight standing.
Krause tries to pull guard but Caram won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Krause. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The referee calls for Caram to work.
Caram lands with a short shot to the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee is keeping an eye on Caram - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Krause tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've been hearing reports that Krause has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Caram lands a hook that snaps the head of Krause backwards.

Krause is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Caram to keep the fight standing.
Caram lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Krause or not.

Krause dodges an elbow strike from Caram.
Caram throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
The referee calls for Caram to work.

Caram looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Caram lands a hook to the side of the head.
Caram gets through Krause's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Krause takes a knee right on the jaw!
Caram dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Caram lands an elbow inside.
Caram landing knees to the head.


Krause is rocked!
Caram stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Oh Krause is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Caram taking a breather.
Krause seems to have got his legs back now.
Caram manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Caram looking to throw knees to the head but Krause is blocking nicely.
Caram unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Krause is trying to pull guard but Caram turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Krause jumps guard but Caram turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Come on Caram - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Jamari Caram.
Caram pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Caram throws a low kick but Krause moves out of range easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Krause moves in looking to clinch but Caram pushes him off.

Krause looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Caram tries to get to full guard but Krause has control of the leg.
Caram has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Caram really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Krause. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Caram gets full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Krause thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Krause tries to free his leg and advance position but Caram is retaining full guard.

Krause is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Caram is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Caram has escaped and now he's on top!

Caram seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Krause has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Caram can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Caram must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Caram works over Krause with some ground and pound from guard.
Caram trying to control the position from guard on top but Krause is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Krause is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Caram rolls with it to try and escape but Krause cranks on the arm and Caram is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Krause!
