PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, David Sharpe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Bull!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bull avoids the body shot from Sharpe.
Sharpe looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Bull lands with a kick to the ribs.
Sharpe tries to land a front kick but Bull steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Bull shoots in looking for a takedown but Sharpe manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bull's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bull shoots in for a takedown but Sharpe shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Bull slips a jab and a cross from Sharpe.
Sharpe throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sharpe moves forwards but Bull connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Bull forces Sharpe back against the cage and clinches.
Sharpe misses with the head strike.

Bull is trying to trip Sharpe. He has hold of a leg but Sharpe is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Bull persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Bull trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharpe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bull wants to pass the guard but Sharpe is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sharpe keeping moving, preventing Bull from controlling successfully.
Sharpe can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bull controls the pace.
Bull stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sharpe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bull throws a big right hand that misses.
Bull trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharpe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sharpe throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bull tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sharpe paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bull shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sharpe as he avoids it easily.
David Sharpe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Bull.
Bull fails with a takedown attempt.
Sharpe misses with a body kick.

Bull moves into the clinch successfully.
Bull has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sharpe is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Sharpe manages to break the clinch.
Bull goes for a double leg but Sharpe avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sharpe continues to drive forward.
Sharpe is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Bull.

Bull shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sharpe napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Bull tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bull has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bull throws a strike aimed at the side of Sharpe's head but Sharpe avoids it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bull controls the position.
Bull trying to control the position but Sharpe is working away.

Bull is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sharpe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sharpe avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bull.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bull is looking to take a break and control but Sharpe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sharpe looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Bull misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Bull dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Bull throws a right and a left that both miss.
Bull fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sharpe scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Sharpe throws a left and a right that both miss

and Bull counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Sharpe!
Sharpe is looking for a sweep.
Bull wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sharpe keeps working.
Bull works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Bull has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bull throws an elbow but Sharpe slips to the side and avoids it well.
Bull controls the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sharpe wants to get back to his feet but Bull drags him back down.
Bull landing a few strikes.
Bull wants to control but Sharpe is keeping him busy.
Bull connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Sharpe some visible discomfort.
Bull trying to control the action but Sharpe is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bull tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sharpe circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bull tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bull tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sharpe paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bull plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Nice takedown defense from Sharpe. No joy for Bull on that attempt.
Sharpe half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sharpe tries to clinch up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bull.
David Sharpe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Bull.
Bull shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sharpe defends it nicely.
Sharpe drops down looking for a counter takedown but Bull sprawls and moves away.
Bull goes for a double leg but Sharpe avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sharpe continues to drive forward.
Sharpe closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
No joy there for Bull, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As Bull tries to get set, Sharpe tries to push him back and clinch up but Bull manages to avoid the attempt.
A good leg kick by Bull.
Bull throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sharpe's waist but Sharpe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bull off to one side.
Bull moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Bull has a takedown stuffed.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bull shoots in but no luck this time.
A punch lands to the side of Bull 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Sharpe throws a head kick that misses.
Sharpe fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
David Sharpe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bull misses with a few strikes there.
Bull changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sharpe tries to avoid it but Bull manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sharpe to the ground. Sharpe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sharpe tries to bum rush Bull with a series of wild strikes but Bull uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bull dodges the punch combination from Sharpe.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bull dives in and grabs Sharpe's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sharpe pushes down on Bull's head and hops out.
Bull shoots for a takedown but Sharpe saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jack Bull will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bull has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Bull throws a front kick that sends Sharpe stumbling back into the cage.
Bull dives in for a single leg takedown but Sharpe sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bull has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sharpe on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Bull. Bull obviously looking to wear him down.
Bull tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sharpe swivels and escapes.
Bull closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sharpe circles away.
David Sharpe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Bull.
Sharpe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bull moves in looking to clinch but Sharpe pushes him off.
Bull dives in for a single leg takedown but Sharpe sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Sharpe gets caught flat footed, as Bull shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Bull looking to sit in guard and control but Sharpe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Sharpe won't allow Bull to sweep him here.

Sharpe stands up and waves to Bull to follow him.
Sharpe moves out of range of the strikes.
Bull looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sharpe misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bull fails to land the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bull gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sharpe counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Sharpe moves into the clinch.

Bull breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
David Sharpe is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bull shoots in and drives through. Sharpe sprawls well.
Sharpe half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sharpe moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Sharpe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bull moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bull is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Sharpe throws a right hand that Bull ducks under and follows up with a left that Bull also avoids with ease.
Bull misses with a takedown attempt - Sharpe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sharpe lands a nice shot that snaps Bull's head back.
Bull is looking to clinch.
Bull changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sharpe tries to avoid it but Bull manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sharpe to the ground. Sharpe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sharpe throws a big counter combination but Bull scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Bull has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sharpe avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Sharpe lands a hook to the side of the head.

Bull escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bull tries to bum rush Sharpe with a series of wild strikes but Sharpe uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bull misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sharpe ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Bull throws a hook but Sharpe avoids it easily.
Bull's jab looks to have found its range, popping Sharpe under the eye.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sharpe tries to clinch there but Bull circles away.
Bull shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sharpe but Sharpe pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sharpe scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Jack Bull is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Nice sprawl there from Sharpe as Bull shoots in.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Sharpe showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Bull has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
