PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liam Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Liam Clark!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Russell Pearce and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin throws a nice inside leg kick.

Clark moves into the clinch successfully.

Clark turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Clark manages to end up in side control.
Martin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Check out the look on Clark's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Clark prevents Martin from escaping the position.
Clark with the ground and pound but Martin regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Martin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Clark.
Clark thows a huge punch but Martin dodges it nicely.

Clark drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Martin dives on top into guard.

Clark has Martin pulled in close to control his posture.
Clark is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Martin is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Clark seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Clark manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Martin on his heels. He'll look to pass Martin's guard now, I'm sure.
Clark has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Martin wants to stand up but Clark is controlling him.
Clark is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Clark postures up in Martin's guard and throws a big left but Martin blocks it.

Clark throws a big right hand that misses.
Clark tries to free his leg and advance position but Martin is retaining full guard.
Martin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Clark is one step ahead there.
Clark throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clark is looking to work some ground and pound but Martin has wrist control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Martin scores with a nice body kick.
Clark misses with a double jab.
Clark has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Martin.
Martin fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Martin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Clark shoots in looking for a takedown. Martin tries to sprawl out of it but Clark keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice body kick there by Martin.
Martin lands with a kick to the ribs.
Martin buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Martin pushes Clark away with a front kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Clark shoots in looking for a takedown. Martin tries to sprawl out of it but Clark keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Clark tries to clinch but Martin is having none of it.
No luck for Clark with that takedown attempt.
Martin tried to counter with a leg kick but Clark avoided it.
Frank Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Clark.
Good leg kick by Martin there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Martin will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Clark decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Clark is trying to control. Martin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Martin wants to control but Clark is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Martin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Clark.
Clark passes Martin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Clark is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Martin is looking for a sweep. Clark is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Clark sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Clark tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Clark looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Clark is working for a guillotine from mount but Martin frees his head quite easily.
Clark misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Martin keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Clark avoids the attempt from Martin to control.
Clark throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Clark sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Clark thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Martin tries to lock up and control but Clark gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Liam Clark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Martin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Clark on the ground.

Martin controls Clark momentarily but Clark frees himself.
Martin looking for a sweep. Not yet Martin, not yet.
Clark stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Clark wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving.
Clark throws an elbow that misses. Martin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Clark's guard. Nice move by Martin!

Clark throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Clark seems keen to control Martin's posture.
Clark keeping moving, preventing Martin from controlling successfully.
Martin looking to pass the guard.
Clark throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Clark looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martin is one step ahead there.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Clark moves into the clinch successfully.

Clark escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Martin lands with a slapping head kick.
Clark tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Martin swivels and escapes.
Martin appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Clark takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Clark throws the left hand but Martin avoids the punch easily.
Martin jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Clark fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Frank Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Clark.
Martin pushes Clark away with a front kick.
Clark tries for a takedown but Martin circles away easily
and Martin makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Clark really felt that one!
Clark takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Martin scores with a head kick. Clark tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Frank Martin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Martin thuds his shin into the meat of Clark's side.
Liam Clark seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Clark shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Clark was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Clark wants to control but Martin is keeping him busy.
Martin is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Clark has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Clark sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Martin is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Clark tries to score with some ground and pound. Martin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Martin parries the strikes from Clark easily there. Clark is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Martin to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Frank Martin.
I think Martin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
