PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jim Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Modack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Modack has chosen Duran Duran -Wild Boys as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Terry Modack will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Murphy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Terry Modack!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Modack moves away from the strike by Murphy.
A lazy left from Murphy finds it's target.
The fighters circling - Murphy throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Modack uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Murphy.

Murphy clinches up with Modack and pushes him back against the cage.

Modack breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Modack throws a body kick that misses.
Modack looks to land a combination but Murphy avoids it well.
Murphy throws a shot from downtown. Modack moves away and avoids it.
The fighters circling - Murphy throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Modack lands with a nice combination. Murphy backs away looking to recover.
Modack throws a series of punches but Murphy moves out of range.
Modack misses with a series of wild punches.
Modack gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Murphy counters with a lovely straight right hand!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Murphy misses with a looping right.
Modack throws a sloppy head kick and Murphy moves out of range easily.
Modack throws a leg kick that is checked
letting Murphy counter with a right hand.

Modack displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Murphy throws out the jab.
Modack is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Modack pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Modack misses with a jab, cross combination.
Modack thows a leg kick but Murphy checks it
enabling Murphy to counter with a crisp jab.
A bone on bone clash there as Murphy blocks the leg kick.
It looked like Murphy wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Murphy scores with a nice strike.
Modack misses with a head kick.
Murphy misses the jab.
Modack misses with a head kick.
Murphy looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Modack moves out of range of the strikes.
Murphy loads up on a big right hand but Modack slips the punch.
Murphy misses with an uppercut. Modack saw that one coming.
Modack misses with a low kick.
Murphy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Good shot there by Murphy.
Murphy missing with a left hand there. Modack was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Modack only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Modack throws a leg kick but Murphy checks it.

Modack fails to land with a series of punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Murphy throws a shot from downtown. Modack moves away and avoids it.
Modack unleashes a big counter combination but Murphy bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Modack lands a nice leg kick that just misses Murphy's sensitive parts.
Nice uppercut lands for Murphy. That snapped Modack's head back.
Modack misses with a two punch combination.
Murphy on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Modack connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Modack swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
An attempted straight right counter from Murphy misses the target.
Modack throws a sloppy head kick
enabling Murphy to counter with a crisp jab.
Modack slips a jab from Murphy.
Modack throws a sloppy head kick
and Murphy cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Murphy feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Modacks jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Modack throws a nice looking combination but Murphy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Murphy counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Murphy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


Modack is rocked!
Murphy walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Modack drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Murphy swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Modack's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jim Murphy!
Jim Murphy decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
