PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quintus Daedalus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daedalus has chosen Spartacus Soundtrack as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Quintus Daedalus!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown throws a combination that misses

and Daedalus counters with a takedown into side control.
Brown is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Brown's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown is looking for a sweep.
Daedalus tries to stand but Brown is controlling his head.
Daedalus trying to control the position but Brown is working away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown manages to work his way to half guard, despite Daedalus's best efforts.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Brown is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Daedalus gets his way!
Daedalus has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Brown.
Daedalus just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Brown breaks Daedalus's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Brown is looking to work some ground and pound but Daedalus has wrist control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brown accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Brown throws a big elbow that misses.
Brown loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Daedalus looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Daedalus slips under a jab.
Daedalus cracks the inside of Brown's front leg.
Brown throws a jab but it's blocked by Daedalus.
A nice side step and Daedalus releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Brown throws a looping overhand right but Daedalus ducks down to avoid it.
Brown throws out a loose jab but Daedalus uses good head movement to avoid it.
Daedalus feints the counter takedown.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brown on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Brown throws a hook to the side of Daedalus's head but Daedalus sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Brown takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Daedalus shoots in for a takedown but Brown shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Daedalus throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brown was covering up waiting for the punch and Daedalus finishes the takedown easily into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quintus Daedalus dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Brown looks to land a right hand but Daedalus moved out of range.
Daedalus blocks a jab.
Brown tests Daedalus's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Daedalus shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Brown sprawls well. Brown wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Daedalus gets slowly back to his feet.

Daedalus decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Daedalus prevents Brown from improving his position.
Daedalus is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Daedalus has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Daedalus passes to full mount!
Daedalus manages to capitalize on a mistake by Brown to take his back!
Brown tries to break free.
Daedalus is punishing Brown with strikes - can he finish him?!

Oooh a big shot gets through from Daedalus. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Quintus Daedalus has got the better of the ground game so far.
Daedalus has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Brown.


Brown is rocked!
Daedalus gets his hands free as Brown looks to control.
Oh Brown is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Daedalus is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Brown taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Daedalus.
