PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Malcom Brennan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terran Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Malcom Brennan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Terran Smith!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Brennan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Brennan could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Brennan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Brennan drops an elbow to the side of Smith's head.
Smith tries to roll over but Brennan keeps him under control.
Smith is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith is trying to control but Brennan manages to pass to mount!
Smith regains half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith keeping control of the position.
Smith moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Brennan wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Brennan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Smith is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Brennan postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.

Brennan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smith has escaped and now he's on top!

Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Smith fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Smith misses with the ground and pound.
Brennan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Smith stands up.

Smith looking to score a takedown here. Brennan is defending well but Smith drives through and ends up in Brennan's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Brennan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terran Smith dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Brennan enables Smith to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Brennan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Smith won't allow Brennan to sweep him here.

Smith decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Brennan, up you get!

Smith moves into the clinch successfully.

Brennan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smith fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Terran Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
An inside leg kick from Smith misses.
Jab by Smith.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brennan napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Smith prevents Brennan from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brennan is looking to reverse the position.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brennan keeps working.
Brennan tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Smith easily slips into full mount!

Smith stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith throws a low kick but Brennan moves out of range easily.

Smith throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Brennan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Smith is in Brennan's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Brennan is looking to stand up but Smith isn't so interested in that idea.
Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brennan can't keep his opponent in guard - Smith advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Brennan's head.
Brennan gets full guard.

Smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Brennan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Brennan has wrist control.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Brennan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Smith drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Brennan defends it well.
Smith lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Brennan at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terran Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Brennan is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Brennan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brennan's guard.

Brennan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Smith has picked Brennan up and slammed him! Brennan can't keep hold of the triangle and Smith manages to pass to side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Smith throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Brennan parries the strikes from Smith easily there. Smith is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Brennan to escape.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Brennan is defending well.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Brennan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brennan throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Brennan wants to control but Smith postures up.
Smith controlling the position from side mount.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Brennan gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Brennan looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Smith passes into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Smith stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Smith throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brennan was covering up waiting for the punch and Smith finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Smith stands and throws Brennan's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Smith wants to control but Brennan is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith happy to just control the position for now.
Brennan misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Smith is trying to ground and pound but Brennan uses the momentary lack of control by Smith to regain half guard.
Brennan gets back to full guard.
Malcom Brennan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Terran Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Terran Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.

Terran Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
