The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz has closed the distance and engaged Mattos in a clinch.

Mattos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ruiz tries to avoid it but Mattos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ruiz to the ground. Ruiz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Joao Mattos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ruiz shoots for a double leg takedown but Mattos sprawls well. He's pushed Ruiz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ruiz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mattos pulls his leg out and moves away.
Mattos shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruiz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mattos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
