Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Elmer Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winston Carlman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elmer Powell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Winston Carlman!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carlman closes the distance and clinches.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Carlman is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Powell is defending well for now.

Carlman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Powell has a takedown stuffed.
Powell throws a combination. Carlman tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Carlman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Powell is trying to get back to half guard.
Powell is pushing Carlman's head away, looking to escape. Carlman manages to hold on to the position though.
Powell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Carlman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Powell is looking to regain half guard here but Carlman keeps moving and retains side control.
Powell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carlman wants to stand but Powell is controlling his arm.
Carlman wants to control but Powell is keeping him busy.

Carlman swings around for an armbar but Powell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Carlman's guard.
Carlman is trying to keep Powell in close.
Powell with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Powell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Carlman wants to stand and escape but Powell is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Powell throws a big right hand that misses.

Carlman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Powell wants to stand but Carlman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Powell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carlman manages to get himself to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carlman can do anything to dispel that myth.
Carlman has momentary wrist control but Powell slips an elbow through the middle.

A close round but Winston Carlman will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Powell throws a sloppy head kick and Carlman moves out of range easily.

Carlman pushes Powell up against the cage in a clinch.

Powell is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Powell misses with some strikes from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Carlman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Powell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carlman's guard.

Carlman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Powell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Powell drops back looking for a leg! Carlman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carlman manages to kick Powell off! Powell jumps back into Carlman's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carlman doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Winston Carlman has got the better of the ground game so far.
Powell in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Carlman is trying to keep Powell in close.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A head kick misses from Powell.
Powell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Carlman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Powell to the mat! Powell manages to get full guard.

Powell controls Carlman momentarily but Carlman frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Winston Carlman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Powell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Carlman falls off balance throwing a combination

and Powell moves into the clinch.

Carlman turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Carlman manages to end up in side control.

Carlman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Powell, who protects the arm well.
Powell is not content to let Carlman control the position.

Powell manages to work his way to half guard, despite Carlman's best efforts.
Carlman has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Powell works to full guard.
Powell utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Powell isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Carlman stacks Powell on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Carlman!

I really don't envy Carlman right now.
Carlman wants to control his opponent's hands but Powell gets his hands free.

Carlman wants to control his opponent's hands but Powell gets his hands free.
You can see the frustration on Carlman's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
