The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mays walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Jab by Gold.
Mays tries for a takedown but Gold circles away easily
letting Gold counter with a right hand.

Mays closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gold struggling a bit here.
Gold looks to move to half guard but instead Mays has passed into mount! Damn!
Mays wants to control the pace but Gold is squirming around nicely.
Gold keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Mays lands a nice shot to the head.
Gold felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gold can't escape the position.
Mays has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gold's face.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gold can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mays looking to finish Gold with some ground and pound. This is bad for Gold!
Mays scoring with strikes but Gold is staying in there.
Gold wants to hold on but Mays pushes him away.
Mays lands a big elbow.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mays cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Gold tries to lock up and control but Mays gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Mays pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Gold is bucking up trying to escape but Mays cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Gold is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gold really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mays. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gold tries to reverse the position but Mays maintains control.

Mays with shots to the head and body - Gold looks very uncomfortable down there.
Mays loads up with a big shot that hurts Gold! He's pulled Mays in close but Mays has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Gold survive? More strikes from Mays and Gold is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
