PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dusty Madson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Geghard Karekin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Geghard Karekin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Dusty Madson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Geghard Karekin!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Madson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Karekin moves away.
Karekin drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Madson defends it well.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Karekin checks a leg kick.
Madson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Madson scores with a jab to the jaw.
Madson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Madson throws a jab when Karekin was well out of range.
Karekin drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Madson defends it well.
Karekin slips a jab from Madson.
Karekin is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Madson tries a head kick but it misses.
Karekin feints the counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Madson will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
And Karekin tries to counter it with a takedown but Madson pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Madson fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

A looping hook to the body misses from Madson. Karekin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Karekin tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Karekin takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Karekin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Madson's guard.

Karekin throws a strike but Madson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Madson throws an elbow that misses. Karekin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Madson's guard. Nice move by Karekin!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Madson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Karekin is working away from the top position though.
Madson is looking to improve his position.
Karekin not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Madson is looking for a sweep. Karekin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Karekin thows a huge punch but Madson dodges it nicely.
Karekin tries to pass to full mount but Madson defends it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Madson stops Karekin from standing up.
Madson is looking to work some ground and pound but Karekin has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Madson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Karekin on the side of the head.
Madson throws a body shot but no joy.
Madson lands a head kick. Karekin smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Karekin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Madson. Madson obviously looking to wear him down.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Karekin tries to move into range but Madson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Karekin gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Madson just misses with a punch to the body.

and Karekin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Madson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Karekin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Karekin wants to control but Madson is keeping him busy.
Karekin not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Karekin takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Madson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dusty Madson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
