PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between DJ Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Pro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pro has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The key to victory for DJ Palmer has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, DJ Palmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mr Pro!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palmer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pro looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Palmer slips a jab from Pro.
Palmer tries to clinch but Pro moves away

and Pro decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Palmer's guard.
Palmer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pro is one step ahead there.

Palmer is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Palmer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pro doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pro manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Pro cracks Palmer with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Palmer has his foot on Pro's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pro works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pro wants to pass the guard but Palmer is keeping the position.

Palmer is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pro defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Palmer has hold of Pro's hands but Pro slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Palmer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Palmer gets full guard.
Pro controlling from the top position.
Palmer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Palmer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Palmer wants to improve his position but instead Pro has moved into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pro takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Palmer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Palmer lands with a good body shot.
Palmer moves into range and connects with a jab.

Palmer lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Pro at a distance.
Pro takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Pro stuffs the takedown attempt from Palmer. Palmer gets slowly back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Palmer throws a combination. Pro tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Mr Pro has been cut.
Pro is breathing heavily.

Palmer throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Pro on the side of the head.

Palmer is looking to wear down Pro with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Palmer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pro manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pro wants to counter the offense by Palmer and move into the clinch position.
Pro takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Palmer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Pro stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Palmer seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Pro doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Palmer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pro as he avoids it easily.
Palmer wants to clinch up but Pro keeps it at a distance.
DJ Palmer is winning the standup battle so far.
Palmer lands a nice hook to Pro's body. Pro takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Pro drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Palmer, as that shot connected.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pro takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Pro takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Palmer scores with a jab to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DJ Palmer dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Mr Pro's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Palmer tries to close the distance and clinch but Pro swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pro raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Palmer checks a leg kick.

Palmer has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Pro is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Palmer.

Pro is trying to get an arm triangle but Palmer is defending well.
Mr Pro has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pro takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Palmer regains half guard.
Palmer tries to roll over but Pro keeps him under control.
Palmer works his way to full guard. Good work.
Palmer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pro is one step ahead there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Palmer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pro defends it easily.

Palmer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pro gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Palmer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pro is aware though and is defending well.
Pro forces his way into half guard.
Pro wants to stand but Palmer has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pro thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pro wants to lay and pray for a moment but Palmer keeps working.
Palmer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Palmer is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Pro's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Pro's back!

Palmer is cranking Pro's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Pro! He's tightened the choke and Pro is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). DJ Palmer!
