PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vicente Nunes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Peso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vicente Nunes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Peso!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peso shoots in but no luck this time.
Nunes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Peso takes a swing at Nunes's ribcage but misses.
Nunes swinging wildly here.

Nunes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Nunes is trying to work for a kimura but Peso is defending well.
Peso looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nunes seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Nunes tries to stand but can't do so whilst Peso controls his leg.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nunes takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Vicente Nunes has been cut.

Peso lands a big uppercut and Nunes crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Nunes looks OK. Peso waves Nunes back to his feet!
Nunes definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Nunes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Nunes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Peso wants to get back to his feet but Nunes drags him back down.

Nunes misses with the ground and pound.
Nunes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
We've been informed that Peso has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Peso swinging wildly here.

Nunes shoots in and bounces Peso off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nunes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Nunes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Peso works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Nunes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Peso swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peso is wriggling around but Nunes manages to pass to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vicente Nunes will probably get the nod.

Nunes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Nunes seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Peso for as long as he can get away with.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peso tries to kick Nunes off but Nunes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Peso ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nunes moves away.
Peso misses with a body punch
and Nunes counters with a nice body shot.
Peso lands with a right hand.

Nunes scores with a takedown into Peso's guard.

Peso punching from the bottom - just letting Nunes know he's still in a fight.

Nunes stops Peso from standing up.
Peso can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nunes controls the pace.
Nunes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Peso is keeping the position for now.

Nunes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Peso was covering up waiting for the punch and Nunes finishes the takedown easily into guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nunes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Peso is looking to stand up but Nunes isn't so interested in that idea.

Nunes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Peso is trying to stand back up but Nunes is controlling him
Nunes wants to pass the guard but Peso is defending well.
Nunes with the ground and pound but Peso uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Vicente Nunes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Peso throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nunes.

Peso tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nunes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nunes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Peso shoots in looking for a takedown. Nunes tries to sprawl out of it but Peso keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nunes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nunes keeps the fight on the outside.
A little feinted left hand from Nunes on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Peso wants to clinch up but Nunes keeps it at a distance.

Peso doesn't manage to clinch there - Nunes circles away.

Nunes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Peso quickly recovers to half guard.
Nunes with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Nunes not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Nunes is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Peso can do to turn this around?
Peso wants to get back to his feet.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nunes in particular looking to stall.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Peso tries to close the distance and clinch but Nunes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nunes dodges the punch combination from Peso.

Peso pushes Nunes off looking to stand but Nunes dives back in and keeps control.
Johnny Peso has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Nunes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nunes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
