PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Humberto Travis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jens Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jens Howard was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Travis shoots in but Howard avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Howard feints the counter takedown.
Travis shoots in and drives through. Howard sprawls well.
Howard changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Travis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Howard sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Humberto Travis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Howard shoots in and gets a takedown into Travis's guard.
Howard stands up over Travis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Travis has his foot on Howard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Howard works his way back into a safe position though.
Travis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Howard connects with a couple of short punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Howard connects with a nice short shot to Travis's temple.
Howard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Howard wants to pass to mount but Travis is defending the position.

Howard is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Travis manages to get to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Howard scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Travis lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Howard is striking off his back. Travis thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Howard wants to get back to full guard but Travis has passed into side control.
Howard tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Howard bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Howard lands a couple of digs.
Travis throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Howard is working Travis over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Travis is rocked!
Howard is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Oh Travis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Howard lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Howard arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Travis's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

In his post fight interview, Jens Howard started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
