The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs dives in and grabs Schoenhals's left leg, looking for a takedown. Schoenhals pushes down on Riggs's head and hops out.
Schoenhals tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Schoenhals keeps the fight on the outside.

Riggs tries to sprawl but Schoenhals drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Schoenhals tries to pass to full mount but Riggs defends it.

Schoenhals looking for a submission but Riggs manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Riggs keeping moving, preventing Schoenhals from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Riggs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schoenhals stands and throws Riggs's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Schoenhals connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Riggs some visible discomfort.

Schoenhals wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Riggs, who protects the arm well.
Schoenhals tries to score with some ground and pound. Riggs controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Riggs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Schoenhals on the ground.

Riggs pushes Schoenhals away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Schoenhals gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Schoenhals looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Schoenhals is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Riggs is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Schoenhals lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Riggs is letting Schoenhals control him for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Schoenhals decides to stand back up. Schoenhals steps back and let's Riggs get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Schoenhals shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Schoenhals was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Riggs is rocked!
A big shot lands for Schoenhals! That's hurt Riggs! Will he recover? Schoenhals fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
