Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Odell Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao De Piento!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

De Piento fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Castillo to the ground. De Piento is now in Castillo's guard.
De Piento pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Castillo is keeping the position for now.
De Piento trying to control the position from guard on top but Castillo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
De Piento is stalling in the full guard.
Castillo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Piento throws an elbow that misses. Castillo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in De Piento's guard. Nice move by Castillo!

Castillo won't allow De Piento to get back to his feet.
Castillo throws a strike but De Piento rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Castillo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for De Piento on the ground.

Castillo is pulling down on De Piento's head to control his posture.
De Piento is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

De Piento shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Castillo is trying to defend but De Piento finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Castillo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Castillo controls De Piento momentarily but De Piento frees himself.

Castillo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and De Piento defends well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
De Piento wants to free his trapped foot but Castillo is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Castillo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Castillo is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. De Piento is defending well for now.
The referee calls for Castillo to work.
Castillo tries to throw a body punch but De Piento avoids it by throwing Castillo back against the cage.
De Piento stalling in the clinch but Castillo improves position.

De Piento breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

De Piento drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

De Piento is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

De Piento wants to get up but he can't break Castillo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

De Piento working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

De Piento is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Castillo gets caught flat footed, as De Piento shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
De Piento passes Castillo's left leg - he's now in half guard.

De Piento seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Joao De Piento showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as De Piento accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
