Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benton Clayton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benton Clayton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Cox!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Clayton shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cox's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clayton throws an elbow that misses. Cox uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Clayton's guard. Nice move by Cox!

Cox tries to stand but Clayton is controlling from the bottom.

Clayton looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cox passes into half guard.
Clayton avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cox.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Clayton taking some punishment here, with Cox in his half guard.
Cox has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clayton won't allow Cox to pass to mount.
Cox takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Cox is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Clayton is looking to control Cox's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Clayton avoid being mounted?
Cox not doing much here.
Cox's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Clayton is trying to control but Cox passes into side control!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cox happy to just control the position for now.
Clayton is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Cox cracks Clayton with a big right hand but Clayton just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Cox wants to stand but Clayton is controlling his arm.

Cox looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
You can see the frustration on Clayton's face as Cox controls the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cox takes the fight into the clinch.

Cox turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Clayton can't do much from the bottom here.

Cox is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Clayton has escaped the position, nice work there.

Clayton has closed the distance and engaged Cox in a clinch.

Clayton shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Clayton thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cox's head.
Cox keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Clayton wants to take a breather but Cox is having none of it.

Cox slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Clayton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cox works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Clayton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Cox lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Cox tries to free his leg and advance position but Clayton is retaining full guard.

Cox is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Cox postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Clayton is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cox, into his guard.

Cox pulls Clayton in to control the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Clayton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cox wants to stand and escape but Clayton is having none of it.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cox holds on and takes a little breather.
Cox preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Benton Clayton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cox shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cox was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Clayton can't do much from the bottom here.
Cox wants to control but Clayton is keeping him busy.

Cox lands a few punches from side control.
Cox is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Clayton tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Cox is looking to take a break and control but Clayton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A close second round but Daniel Cox will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Clayton closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cox to the mat! Cox manages to get full guard.
Cox looking to hit a scissor sweep but Clayton is one step ahead there.
Clayton wants to control from the top but Cox keeps moving.
Daniel Cox has got the better of the ground game so far.

Clayton throws a strike but Cox rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Cox is stalling in the full guard.

Clayton is trying to keep Cox in close.
Cox lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cox looking to sit in guard and control but Clayton gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cox is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Cox bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Clayton's guard.

Cox throws a big elbow that misses.
Cox wanted to stand there but Clayton had control of the position.
Cox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Clayton swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cox advances to half guard.
Still in half guard, Cox seems content to control.
Clayton wants to control but Cox is keeping busy.

Clayton tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Clayton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cox is working away from the top position though.
Cox is controlling the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cox gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Clayton to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Cox is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cox is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Cox tries to pass the half guard into mount. Clayton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Benton Clayton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Daniel Cox is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Daniel Cox.
Well Cox has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
