Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nikolai Kovalenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Calypso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calypso is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Jedi Mind Tricks - Genghis Khan . Jack Calypso has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 49 - 25 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Kovalenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Calypso!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Calypso shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Calypso showed some decent athleticism there.
Calypso trying to control the action but Kovalenko is working from the bottom.
Kovalenko tries to get to full guard but Calypso has control of the leg.
Calypso missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Calypso is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Calypso is pushing down on Kovalenko's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kovalenko is fighting to maintain full guard but Calypso has managed to sneak the leg through.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Calypso working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Calypso tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kovalenko knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kovalenko's coaches at Russian Top Team Elite Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Calypso is looking for a kimura here.

Kovalenko wants to get back to his feet.
Calypso missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Calypso is working for a kimura but Kovalenko is defending it quite comfortably.
Calypso trying to control from Kovalenko's half guard. Kovalenko has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Calypso wants to pass the guard but Kovalenko is keeping the position.
Calypso trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Calypso trying to control the position from guard on top but Kovalenko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No luck for Calypso with that takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A jab from Kovalenko finds it's way through Calypso's defenses.


It looks like Jack Calypso has been cut.
A slow jab from Kovalenko misses its intended target.
A swing and a miss from Kovalenko.
A big right from Kovalenko misses.
Nikolai Kovalenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Calypso dives in for a single leg takedown but Kovalenko sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Calypso throws a body shot but no joy.
A big left from Kovalenko misses.
Kovalenko throws a combination that misses

and Calypso decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kovalenko's guard.
Calypso pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kovalenko is keeping the position for now.
Calypso throws a strike but Kovalenko rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Calypso isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Kovalenko stacks Calypso on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Kovalenko!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Calypso tries to buck Kovalenko off but Kovalenko is having none of it.
Calypso is still trying to improve position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Calypso's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jack Calypso will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Jack Calypso's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Calypso blocks a head kick by Kovalenko.
Calypso throws a leg kick that misses.
Kovalenko throws a head kick but Calypso moves out of range.
Nice shot lands for Kovalenko.
A punch combination from Kovalenko misses.

Kovalenko cracks Calypso with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Calypso looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Kovalenko finish him?


Calypso is rocked!
Kovalenko misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Calypso.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Calypso moves away from the strike by Kovalenko.
Calypso tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kovalenko defends well and Calypso ends up having to push Kovalenko into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kovalenko lands with a hook. Calypso tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Calypso is still on wobbly legs! Can Kovalenko finish him?
Kovalenko tries to bum rush Calypso with a series of wild strikes but Calypso uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Calypso seems to have recovered his senses.
A head kick misses from Kovalenko.
Nikolai Kovalenko is winning the standup battle so far.
Calypso shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kovalenko sprawls well. Kovalenko wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Calypso gets slowly back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kovalenko lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Calypso circles away quickly and effectively.
Calypso shoots in looking for a takedown but Kovalenko manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Calypso's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nikolai Kovalenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Calypso.
A chopping leg kick lands by Kovalenko.
Calypso throws an overhand right that lands on Kovalenko's shoulder, as Kovalenko tries to avoid the shot.
Kovalenko appears to be looking for a big counter.
Nice takedown defense from Kovalenko. No joy for Calypso on that attempt.
Calypso connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kovalenko circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Calypso drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Kovalenko follows Calypso to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nikolai Kovalenko!
Nikolai Kovalenko seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
