The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovalev throws an off balance right hand
and Monroe counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Kovalev misses with a hook.
Monroe tries to counter by clinching up but Kovalev breaks away and moves out of range.
Kovalev throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Monroe tries to counter with a takedown but Kovalev is quick to defend against it.
A combination from Kovalev does no damage.
Monroe wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Nice uppercut there from Kovalev.

It looks like Reginald Monroe has been cut.

Monroe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kovalev to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Monroe is controlling Kovalev's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monroe is trying to keep Kovalev in close.
Kovalev postures up in Monroe's guard and throws a big left but Monroe blocks it.
Kovalev wants to control from the top but Monroe keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kovalev scores with a jab. Monroe acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Kovalev sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Monroe's defenses. It connects perfectly with Monroe's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
