Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robert Maudsley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winston Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maudsley comes to the cage accompanied by Irigy HónaljMirigy - Irigy Oszkármirigy (Titanic song parody in Hungarian). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Winston Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes moves away from the strike by Maudsley.
Hughes looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Hughes displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Maudsley throws out the jab.
Hughes throws a left and a right that both miss
and Maudsley counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hughes throws a shot to the body.
Maudsley misses with a double jab.
A little jabbing left from Hughes on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Hughes moves away from the strike by Maudsley.
Hughes has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Maudsley throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Hughes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Maudsley takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

The crowd cheers as Hughes lands an impressive looking overhand right. Maudsley doesn't seem phased though.
Hughes swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Maudsley throws a series of punches but Hughes moves out of range.
Hughes ducks under a wild hook from Maudsley.
Hughes missing with a left hand there. Maudsley was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've been hearing reports that Maudsley has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

A big right from Hughes misses.
Maudsley lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hughes keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Maudsley.

Maudsley connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hughes. Hughes circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Maudsley tries to move into range but Hughes moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hughes ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Maudsley throws a poor cross that misses
and Maudsley takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Maudsley uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hughes.
Hughes lands the left hand.
Hughes clobbers Maudsley with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Hughes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hughes takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


Maudsley is rocked!

Hughes lands a big right hand that sends Maudsley crashing to the mat! Hughes stays standing though and waves Maudsley back to his feet!
Oh Maudsley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hughes lands with a good body shot.
Hughes darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Maudsley's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles Hughes before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:07 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Winston Hughes!
