PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Quin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcos Duarte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quin comes to the cage accompanied by Captain Jack - Iko Iko. Duarte has chosen Go 2 Sleep by Ludacris as his entrance music. Matt Quin has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Quin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 19 - 1, fighting out of New York, Marcos Duarte!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duarte takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Duarte shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Quin is trying to defend but Duarte finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Duarte sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Quin defending well though.

Duarte wants to work for an arm triangle but Quin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Duarte thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Quin moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Duarte working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Quin's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Duarte's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Duarte lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Duarte distracts Quin with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Duarte throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Quin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Duarte is aware though and is defending well.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Duarte working his ground and pound in the gym.
Duarte chips away with some ground and pound.
Quin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Duarte is one step ahead there.
Duarte postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Quin looking for a sweep. Not yet Quin, not yet.
Duarte with a flurry of punches that miss.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Duarte throws a big right hand that misses.
Duarte trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Quin has been working on his boxing with his coaches at LOD: Ground Zero in the buildup to the fight.
Duarte lands an overhand right.

Duarte scores with a takedown into Quin's guard.

Duarte stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Quin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Quin wants to sweep but no luck.

Duarte wants to control from the top but Quin keeps moving.
Quin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Duarte's guard.
Quin postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Duarte looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Quin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Duarte works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Quin's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Duarte misses with a body kick.
Quin misses with a few strikes there.
Duarte scores with a nice head shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Quin misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Duarte.
Duarte shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Quin as he jumps to the side.
Duarte misses with a jab, cross combination.
Quin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Duarte to counter with a crisp jab.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duarte scoring well with a low kick there.
Matt Quin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Duarte is trying hard to land a takedown here. Quin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Quin seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcos Duarte dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Quin slips under a jab.
Quin swings away with a body shot that misses
letting Duarte counter with a right hand.
Quin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Duarte dives in and grabs Quin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Quin pushes down on Duarte's head and hops out.
Quin is looking to counter punch.
Quin keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quin looks to score with a jab to the body but Duarte is just out of range.
Duarte throws a big shot that misses.
Quin lands a slapping body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quin misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Duarte counters with a head kick.

Duarte feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Quin wants to sweep here but Duarte controlling him for the moment.

Quin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Duarte doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Duarte manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Duarte wants to pass the guard but Quin is keeping the position.

Duarte lands a couple of digs.

Duarte working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Quin working for a triangle but Duarte defends it easily.
Quin controls Duarte momentarily but Duarte frees himself.
Duarte with a nice head shot there.
Duarte tries to free his leg and advance position but Quin is retaining full guard.
Duarte keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Quin's head.
Duarte is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quin looking to control.
Quin looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Duarte puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Quin tries to roll over but Duarte keeps him under control.
Duarte missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Quin is looking to improve his position.
Quin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Duarte is working away from the top position though.
Duarte winds up and cracks Quin with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Duarte moves nicely into side control.
Quin tries to improve position but can't.
Duarte in side control, throwing shots but Quin defends.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Duarte connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Quin some visible discomfort.
Quin is looking to reverse the position.
Duarte throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Duarte is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Quin looks calm but he's in trouble here. Duarte gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Quin is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Duarte lets go of the hold and Quin can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Marcos Duarte!
During a confident post fight interview, Marcos Duarte thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
