The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercado misses the shot to the body.
A countering left hand to the body from Pettis misses.
Mercado shoots in but no luck this time.
Pettis is looking for the big counter here.
Mercado throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pettis's waist but Pettis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mercado off to one side.
Pettis throws out a counter right but Mercado avoids it with no problem.
Pettis misses with a straight right.
Mercado fails with the takedown.

and Pettis counters with a nice right hand that sends Mercado toppling to the canvas! Mercado scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Pettis finish him?!
Danjie Mercado seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Pettis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Pettis counters with a huge left! Mercado is in big trouble! He's backing up but Pettis isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Mercado from any more damage. A dominating finish by Pettis!

Jeremy Pettis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Danjie Mercado was interviewed post fight and said 'Well, what can I say man. He's the better man today. I'll be back. '.
