Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bertram Howell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hodir Ragnarsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hodir Ragnarsson looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bertram Howell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hodir Ragnarsson!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ragnarsson pushes Howell up against the cage in a clinch.
Howell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Howell is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ragnarsson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ragnarsson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Howell's efforts to push away.

Ragnarsson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Howell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ragnarsson wants to stand up but Howell is controlling him.
Howell wants to pass the guard but Ragnarsson is keeping the position.
Ragnarsson is looking to stand up but Howell isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ragnarsson pushes Howell off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ragnarsson wants to finish this one by submission but Howell is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ragnarsson.

Ragnarsson prevents Howell from getting the reversal.

Ragnarsson gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Howell has his feet on Ragnarsson's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Ragnarsson throws a series of punches but Howell moves out of range.
Howell feinted with a counter takedown.

Ragnarsson throws a shot from downtown. Howell moves away and avoids it.
Howell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Ragnarsson takes the fight into the clinch.
Howell tries to circle away but Ragnarsson has him pinned against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ragnarsson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ragnarsson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Howell.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hodir Ragnarsson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Howell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ragnarsson lands a head kick. Howell smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Howell throws an off balance right hand
and Ragnarsson counters with a stiff right hand.
Howell misses with a takedown

and Ragnarsson counters by moving into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Ragnarsson lands a takedown into guard.

Ragnarsson trying to control the position from guard on top but Howell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Howell wants to sweep here but Ragnarsson controlling him for the moment.
Ragnarsson is breathing heavily.
Ragnarsson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Howell looking for a sweep. Not yet Howell, not yet.

Howell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ragnarsson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ragnarsson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ragnarsson drops back looking for a leg! Howell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Howell manages to kick Ragnarsson off! Ragnarsson jumps back into Howell's guard.
Ragnarsson won't allow Howell to get back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Howell thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Howell looking for a sweep. Not yet Howell, not yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hodir Ragnarsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Howell gets tackled into the cage by Ragnarsson. Ragnarsson maintains the clinch.
Ragnarsson keeps control of Howell as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Howell wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Howell goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A frustrated look appears on Howell's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Howell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ragnarsson just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bertram Howell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ragnarsson lands a nice knee to the body.
Howell is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Ragnarsson is defending well for now.
Howell digs a right hand underneath Ragnarsson's ribcage. Ragnarsson let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Ragnarsson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight stays on the outside here - Howell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Howell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ragnarsson swivels and escapes.

Ragnarsson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Howell wants to get back to his feet.
Ragnarsson wants to take a breather but Howell is having none of it.
Howell scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Ragnarsson manages to mount him!

Howell is desperately trying to improve his position but Ragnarsson has a good base and remains in mount.
Howell flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Howell's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Ragnarsson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Howell can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ragnarsson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ragnarsson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Hodir Ragnarsson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Howell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Ragnarsson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Howell is looking to clinch.

Howell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Howell showed some decent athleticism there.
Howell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ragnarsson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Howell is thwarting Ragnarsson's attempts to control the position.
Ragnarsson is trying to stand back up but Howell is controlling him
Ragnarsson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ragnarsson is looking to control Howell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ragnarsson avoid being mounted?
Howell perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Ragnarsson is looking to escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ragnarsson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Howell is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hodir Ragnarsson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Howell is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ragnarsson pulls his head out easily.

A head kick from Ragnarsson lands but Howell takes it in his stride.
Hodir Ragnarsson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Howell enables Ragnarsson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Howell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Howell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ragnarsson is one step ahead there.
Ragnarsson stops Howell from standing up.
Ragnarsson sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Howell wants to stand and escape but Ragnarsson is having none of it.
Bertram Howell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hodir Ragnarsson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ragnarsson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Hodir Ragnarsson rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
