PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Woo Kidd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Woo Kidd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vitor Belfort!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Santiago Holmes and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Kidd. No joy for Belfort on that attempt.
Kidd connects with the punch.

Belfort has Kidd up against the cage in a clinch.

Belfort manages to break the clinch.
Kidd lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Kidd throws a series of punches but Belfort avoids them all with ease.

Kidd gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Belfort sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Kidd can't keep his opponent in guard - Belfort advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kidd is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Still in half guard, Belfort seems content to control.

Belfort is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kidd knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Belfort on the ground.
Belfort tries to pass to full mount but Kidd defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nice strikes from Belfort there.
Kidd makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kidd.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Belfort postures up.
Belfort stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kidd swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kidd wants to stand up but Belfort is controlling him.
Kidd looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Kidd has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Belfort off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Kidd lands with a right hand.
Belfort darts in looking for a takedown but Kidd gets double underhooks and turns Belfort into the cage.
A quick step to the side and Kidd tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice shot by Kidd.
Belfort shoots in looking for a takedown but Kidd manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Belfort's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Woo Kidd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vitor Belfort.

A jab from Kidd does it's job there.
Kidd walks forward, straight into a front kick from Belfort.
Kidd sizes up Belfort with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Kidd lands a jab to the nose.
Kidd scores with a one two! Belfort had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Kidd lands a nice shot that snaps Belfort's head back.
Belfort has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Belfort there as he acknowledges the shot.
Belfort is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kidd.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Good exchange - Kidd coming out on top.
Belfort takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kidd lands a nice looking body shot.
Belfort shoots for a takedown but Kidd saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Belfort shoots for a double leg takedown but Kidd sprawls well. He's pushed Belfort's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kidd thuds a left hand into Belfort's body.
Belfort looks winded!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kidd, as that shot connected.
Belfort takes a body punch but keeps moving.

A shot to the liver by Kidd. Beautiful body shot.
A decent looking cross lands there for Kidd.
Belfort takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Kidd cracks a nice hook into Belfort's ribs.
Kidd throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Kidd tests Belfort's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kidd will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Woo Kidd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Belfort has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Belfort there as he acknowledges the shot.
Woo Kidd is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kidd lands with a good body shot.
Kidd throws a right and a left that Belfort avoids nicely.
Kidd lands a two punch combo.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kidd works Belfort's body with a nice hook.
Kidd lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Belfort at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Woo Kidd dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Belfort with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kidd to score with a decent uppercut.
Kidd misses with the combination.
Kidd stalks Belfort and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Belfort's face. Belfort staggers backwards, shaken.
Kidd scores with the left hand. Belfort knows he should have avoided that one.
Kidd looks to land a right hand but Belfort moved out of range.
Belfort shoots in but no luck this time.
Kidd lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Nice body punch from Kidd.
Kidd wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kidd swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Belfort.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kidd scores with a sloppy right hand. Belfort should have avoided that one.
Kidd throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Belfort on the side of the head.
Belfort fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kidd rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Belfort moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Belfort tries to counter by closing the distance.
Kidd lands a jab-cross combination.
A combination from Kidd does no damage.

Belfort drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kidd is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Belfort can do to turn this around?
Belfort laying and praying for a moment but Kidd takes advantage and regains half guard.

Belfort looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kidd has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Belfort is working away from the top position though.

Kidd is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Kidd is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Belfort looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kidd is looking for a sweep. Belfort is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Belfort trying to control the action but Kidd is working from the bottom.
Kidd is trying to get back to full guard.
Belfort sitting and controlling from the half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Belfort scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Belfort sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Belfort is thwarting Kidd's attempts to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Belfort keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Woo Kidd dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Kidd lands a body shot.

Belfort closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kidd's guard.
Belfort sitting in guard here, content to control.
Belfort passes Kidd's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kidd on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Still in half guard, Belfort seems content to control.
Kidd is looking to get back to full guard here but Belfort has managed to pass to side control instead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kidd is looking to reverse the position.
A lull in the action here as Belfort stalls from top position.

Kidd tries to bench press Belfort off him but Belfort keeps the position.
Kidd is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Belfort is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Belfort looking to control and managing it successfully.
Kidd is bucking up trying to escape but Belfort cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Belfort postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kidd looks a forlorn figure.
Kidd in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Kidd is trying to escape the mount but Belfort keeps good control and instead manages to take Kidd's back.
Belfort throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Belfort is riding his opponent, not letting Kidd buck him off.
Vitor Belfort has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kidd trying to control the position but Belfort manages to sink in the hooks.
Kidd trying to get back to his feet but Belfort is in full control for now.

Belfort is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

Belfort is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Kidd has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Belfort has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Kidd taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Belfort doesn't care though - he's delighted!
