Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Erick Clap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Wayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erick Clap could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Reggie Wayne's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Erick Clap!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Reggie Wayne!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clap swings for the body but Wayne moves out of range.
Wayne wants to counter with a clinch but Clap pushes him away.
Sloppy strikes from Clap. Those never looked like landing.
Wayne checks a low kick from Clap.
Wayne uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Clap.

Wayne gets the takedown into side control.
Clap sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Clap trying to control but Wayne postures up.
Wayne controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clap manages to get to full guard.
Wayne looking to pass the guard.
Clap looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wayne is one step ahead there.

Clap manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wayne manages to get himself to full guard.

Wayne is refusing to be controlled, as Clap sits in half guard.

Clap is stalling here. Wayne is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Clap seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Wayne has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Wayne swings around for an armbar but Clap sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Wayne's guard.

Wayne escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Clap gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That was a close round but I would say that Erick Clap will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wayne tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Clap defends well and Wayne ends up having to push Clap into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Wayne fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Clap avoids it really well and circles away.

Wayne throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Clap was covering up waiting for the punch and Wayne finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Wayne wants to control from the top but Clap keeps moving.

Clap pulls Wayne in to control the position.
Clap bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wayne's guard.

Clap stands and throws Wayne's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Wayne is looking to regain half guard here but Clap keeps moving and retains side control.

Clap tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Clap has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Clap is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wayne is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Wayne closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wayne lands in his opponent's guard.
Clap not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Clap is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wayne wants to get back to full guard but Clap has mounted him!

Clap takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Wayne closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Clap wants to control but Wayne is keeping busy and won't allow it.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Clap holds on and takes a little breather.
