PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sam Sandman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Hell's Bells- AC/DC as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Sandman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cain Jones!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sandman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jones.
Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Sandman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've been told by Sandman's head coaches at Woodhouse's that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Jones is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sandman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jones's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Sandman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.
Sandman managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Jones.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sandman takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Jones throwing strikes here but Sandman is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Jones is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sandman can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sandman circles away.
Jones shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sandman defends it nicely.

Jones is working for a guillotine from mount but Sandman frees his head quite easily.

Jones is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sandman is surviving well by controlling Jones's body position as best he can.

Jones wants to finish this one by submission but Sandman is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jones.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sandman is bucking up trying to escape but Jones cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Sandman is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jones connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Jones goes for an armbar but Sandman turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sandman.

Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Sandman wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sandman's guard.

Jones distracts Sandman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sandman trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Sandman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sandman manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Sandman's guard.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sandman defends it well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sandman wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Sandman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jones was well out of range. Poor timing from Sandman.
Sandman stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.

Jones throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sandman was covering up waiting for the punch and Jones finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Sandman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sandman wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Jones winds up and cracks Sandman with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sandman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Jones is working for a kimura but Sandman is defending it quite comfortably.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.

Sandman wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.
Jones stalling.
Jones is continuing to stall.
Sam Sandman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sandman wants to get back to his feet.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Cain Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jones looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sandman gets caught flat footed, as Jones shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Sandman wriggles free and stands up.
Sandman throws a body shot but no joy.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sandman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sandman down.
Jones cracks Sandman with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Jones remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cain Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jones winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Cain Jones thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, Sam Sandman stepped up to the mic, saying 'That was impressive, I was sure I'd be able to put him to sleep.'.
