Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Paul Wani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artie DeVanzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wani comes to the cage accompanied by *South* Sudan. Artie DeVanzo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wani avoids a punch combination nicely.
DeVanzo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Wani throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from DeVanzo! But no joy.
A punch lands to the side of Wani 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Wani takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that DeVanzo has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Horrible takedown attempt by DeVanzo or perhaps it was just good defense by Wani, which made it look bad.

DeVanzo has his foot on Wani's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wani works his way back into a safe position though.
DeVanzo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wani doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wani manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
DeVanzo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wani defends well.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
DeVanzo will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
