Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Plouman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Neddy Merrill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Anderson Plouman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Neddy Merrill!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Merrill gets the takedown into side control.
Merrill moves into full mount!
Merrill with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Plouman is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Plouman throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Plouman is looking to improve his position but Merrill isn't that keen on the idea.
Merrill tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Merrill fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Plouman is trying desperately to improve position.
Plouman is working hard here to advance position.

Plouman sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Plouman moves into full guard.
Plouman working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Merrill.

Plouman isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Merrill stacks Plouman on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Merrill!
Plouman manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Plouman thows a huge punch but Merrill dodges it nicely.

Plouman throwing shots but Merrill is blocking nicely.
Merrill tries to roll over but Plouman keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Plouman seems to be looking for submissions.
Plouman wants to pass the guard but Merrill is defending well.
We've been hearing that Plouman has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Merrill looks like he's trying to stand up.
Plouman passes to full mount!
Merrill stops Plouman from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Plouman thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Plouman goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Merrill turns into him and now he's in Plouman's guard.

Plouman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Merrill defends it easily.
Plouman looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Plouman has his foot on Merrill's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Merrill works his way back into a safe position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Merrill is looking to advance position but Plouman won't allow it.

A close round but Neddy Merrill will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Plouman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Merrill throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Plouman was covering up waiting for the punch and Merrill finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Merrill lands an elbow to the side of the head.
I really don't envy Plouman right now.
Merrill is trying to stick to Plouman's back but Plouman is turning into Merrill. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Merrill's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Plouman.
Plouman wants to control from the top but Merrill keeps moving.
Plouman is looking to work some ground and pound but Merrill has wrist control.

Plouman engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Plouman looking to sit in guard and control but Merrill gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Well, if Merrill is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Plouman is defended easily by Merrill.
Merrill wants to counter with a clinch but Plouman pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neddy Merrill showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Merrill slaps away a takedown attempt from Plouman, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Merrill moves into the clinch.

Merrill is trying to trip Plouman. He has hold of a leg but Plouman is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Merrill persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Merrill is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Plouman throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Merrill escapes and throws Plouman's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Plouman tries to buck Merrill off but Merrill is having none of it.

Neddy Merrill is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Well Merrill has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
