PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Twiggy BigBranch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ignition. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeremy Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Twiggy BigBranch!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Paul Tew.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
BigBranch connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Smith momentarily.
Smith loads up on a big right hand but BigBranch slips the punch.
Smith has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Wrecking Crew Elite MMA in the buildup to the fight.
Smith blocks a low kick nicely.
Smith stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from BigBranch.
Smith on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
BigBranch lands a leg kick that knocks Smith off balance momentarily.
Smith throws a hook but BigBranch blocks it.
BigBranch has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
BigBranch lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
BigBranch misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.
Twiggy BigBranch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
BigBranch uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Smith.
BigBranch throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Smith walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
BigBranch looks for the body kick but Smith saw that one coming.
A slapping leg kick lands for Smith.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

BigBranch ducks under a wild hook from Smith.
BigBranch connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
BigBranch throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Smith on the side of the head.
BigBranch avoids the head kick by Smith.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but BigBranch moves away.
Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but BigBranch is just out of range.
A clash of legs there as Smith blocks the low kick.
Smith has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from BigBranch finds it's way round the side to connect with Smith's head.

Smith throws a leg kick that misses.
BigBranch lands a slapping body shot.
BigBranch lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
BigBranch chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Smith misses with the combination.
BigBranch throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

BigBranch closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. BigBranch doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. BigBranch manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smith wants to stand and escape but BigBranch is having none of it.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

BigBranch distracts Smith with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
BigBranch's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. BigBranch is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Smith.

Smith wants to get back to his feet but BigBranch drags him back down.
BigBranch connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Smith some visible discomfort.
You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Smith takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smith is looking to work his way out of this bad position but BigBranch is controlling him well.
Smith is not content to let BigBranch control the position.
Smith tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but BigBranch wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Smith sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
BigBranch lands strikes from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

BigBranch thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Twiggy BigBranch dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Smith lands a leg kick that knocks BigBranch off balance momentarily.

and BigBranch decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smith's guard.

Smith has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. BigBranch is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Smith misses with the head strike.

BigBranch breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Twiggy BigBranch seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Smith slips under a jab from BigBranch.
A quick step to the side and Smith tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Smith is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
BigBranch scoring well with a low kick there.
Oh Smith is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
An inside leg kick from Smith misses.
BigBranch cracks Smith with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Smith falls to his knees and BigBranch doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

A very excited looking Twiggy BigBranch rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
