PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leo Katona (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keifer Holdsworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Leo Katona!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Keifer Holdsworth!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Katona shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Holdsworth manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Holdsworth wants to get back to his feet but Katona is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Katona with a nice head shot there.
Holdsworth controls Katona momentarily but Katona frees himself.
Katona is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Holdsworth is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Katona working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Holdsworth doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Holdsworth manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Holdsworth postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Katona is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Holdsworth, into his guard.

Katona throws a big elbow that misses.
Katona works over Holdsworth with some ground and pound from guard.
Holdsworth wants to sweep here but Katona controlling him for the moment.
Holdsworth avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Katona is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Katona wants to pass the guard but Holdsworth is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Katona content to stall in guard here.
Katona advances to half guard.
Katona is controlling the pace.
Katona is looking to advance position but Holdsworth won't allow it.

Katona is working for a submission of some sort.
Katona has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Katona slows the pace down in half guard.
Katona really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Holdsworth really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Katona. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Katona is looking to advance position but Holdsworth won't allow it.
Katona is working hard here to advance position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Katona is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Holdsworth is just riding it out for now. Katona eventually gives up the hold.
Katona perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Holdsworth darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Katona slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leo Katona dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Holdsworth misses with a jab, cross combination.
Holdsworth blocks a leg kick.
Holdsworth throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Katona shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Holdsworth pinned against the cage. Holdsworth gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Katona misses with a head kick.
Katona avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Katona tries to counter with a takedown but Holdsworth is quick to defend against it.
Katona tries a head kick but it misses.
Katona lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Holdsworth circles away quickly and effectively.
A combination from Katona does no damage.
Katona misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Holdsworth thuds a left hand into Katona's body.

Holdsworth changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Katona looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Holdsworth tries for a kimura but Katona is defending well.
Katona misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Katona explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Katona tries to clinch but Holdsworth is having none of it.
Katona fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Leo Katona is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Katona goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
A head kick misses from Katona.
Holdsworth misses with a double jab

and Katona counters with a takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Holdsworth is trying to control Katona's posture but Katona avoids it.

Katona is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Holdsworth is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Holdsworth dodges the ground and pound from Katona.
Katona wants to lay and pray for a moment but Holdsworth keeps working.
Katona is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Holdsworth will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Katona grinds an elbow into Holdsworth's temple.
Holdsworth tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Katona wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Katona scores with a couple of short elbows.
Katona wants to control but Holdsworth is keeping him busy.
Katona controlling the position from side mount.
Holdsworth avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Katona.
Holdsworth being controlled for a moment.

Katona tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Katona just content to control the position.
Holdsworth is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Holdsworth is letting Katona control him for a moment.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leo Katona dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A head kick misses from Katona.
Holdsworth looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Katona lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Holdsworth fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Leo Katona is winning the standup battle so far.

Katona clinches up against the cage.
Holdsworth prevents Katona from breaking the clinch.
Katona tries to break free but Holdsworth pushes him back against the cage.
Katona is looking to break free of the clinch but Holdsworth has double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Katona's face as he tries to break the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Holdsworth manages to pull guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Holdsworth keeping full guard, as Katona tries to pass.
Katona will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Katona looking to sit in guard and control but Holdsworth gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Holdsworth keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Katona's head.

Holdsworth is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Katona has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Holdsworth is looking to defend but Katona has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Holdsworth! Katona pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Holdsworth taps out and this one is all over!
