PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Escrima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Escrima has chosen Bamboleo as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brendan Murphy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miguel Escrima!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Escrima displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Murphy throws out the jab.
Escrima walks into a stiff left hand from Murphy.
Escrima misses with a hook. Murphy ducked under it nicely.
Murphy looks to land a right hand but Escrima moved out of range.
Escrima tries to work over Murphy's front leg with a kick but Murphy checks it.
Escrima lands with a cross.
Murphy takes one to the side of the head.
Murphy has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Murphy misses with a body kick.
Escrima just misses with a punch to the body.
Escrima swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Murphy cracks Escrima with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Murphy misses with a double jab.
Murphy lands with a kick to the ribs.
Escrima misses with a low kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Murphy tries to land a leg kick but Escrima saw it coming and moves away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Murphy crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Escrima - the referee stops the clock and Murphy gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Escrima. Murphy manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Escrima on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Escrima is still on wobbly legs! Can Murphy finish him?
Escrima tries to score with a low kick but Murphy moves his leg out of the way.
Escrima seems to have recovered his senses.
Murphy lands with an uppercut that bounces Escrima off the cage and back into range.
Murphy works Escrima's body with a nice hook.
Escrima has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Murphy throws a lazy right hand but Escrima sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Murphy throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Escrima looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Murphy is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Escrima attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Escrima tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Murphy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Escrima on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Murphy throws out a loose jab but Escrima uses good head movement to avoid it.
Escrima checks the leg kick nicely there.
Escrima throws a chopping leg kick but Murphy manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Murphy is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Murphy tries to counter with a takedown but Escrima is quick to defend against it.
Murphy lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Escrima backs up against the cage.

Murphy throws the left hand but Escrima avoids the punch easily.

Escrima lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Escrima steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Murphy.
Murphy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Escrima was well out of range. Poor timing from Murphy.
Escrima looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Escrima lands with a good body shot.
Escrima connects with a nice looking jab.

Murphy scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Escrima tries to move into range but Murphy moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Escrima throws a shot to the body.
Escrima thumps Murphy with a low kick.
Murphy connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Escrima's hands.
A looping hook to the body misses from Escrima. Murphy does a little dance to reset his feet.
Murphy throws a series of punches but Escrima avoids them all with ease.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Escrima looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A big left from Escrima misses.
Escrima shoots for a double leg takedown but Murphy sprawls well. He's pushed Escrima's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Murphy tries to move into range but Escrima moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Escrima misses with a body kick.
Escrima blocks a jab.
Murphy is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Murphy throws a wild body kick that Escrima sees coming a mile off.
Escrima throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Murphy.
A nice combination there by Murphy.
Nice defenses there by Murphy.
Murphy finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Murphy misses with a kick to the body.
Escrima appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Murphy feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Escrimas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Escrima connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Murphy loads up on a big right hand but Escrima slips the punch.
Escrima throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Murphy stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Escrima lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Escrima takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brendan Murphy will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Murphy throws a wild hook but Escrima just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Murphy gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Escrima raises his hands in celebration and walks away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Miguel Escrima!
A very excited looking Miguel Escrima made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
