PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edward Charles Brock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nate Newman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 28 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edward Charles Brock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nate Newman!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Newman with a jab.
Brock blocks a jab.
Newman scores with a nice head shot.
Brock blocks a jab.
Newman jabs Brock right on the nose. Brock blinks but takes it well.
Newman throws a jab but it's blocked by Brock.
Brock moves out of range of the strikes.

Newman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Brock trying to control the position from guard on top but Newman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Newman avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Brock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Newman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Brock has gone for a leg lock! Newman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Brock's guard.

Brock working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Newman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Newman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Newman passes Brock's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Newman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brock sees it coming and defends easily.
Brock wants to control but Newman is keeping busy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Newman performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Newman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Brock won't allow Newman to pass to mount.
Brock regains full guard. Nicely done.
Brock can't keep his opponent in guard - Newman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Newman looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Newman keeps trying to improve his position.
Brock is looking for a sweep. Newman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Newman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brock keeps working.

Newman is looking for a kimura but Brock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Newman to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Newman is looking to take a break and control but Brock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Newman is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Brock has managed to free his arm - good work.
Brock is refusing to be controlled, as Newman sits in half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brock is looking to improve his position.

Newman prevents Brock from improving his position.
Brock is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Disciples Top Team , so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Newman is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Newman looking to control but Brock is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Newman with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Brock slips under a jab from Newman.

Newman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Brock is not content to let Newman control the position.

Brock keeping moving, preventing Newman from controlling successfully.
Newman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Brock is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Newman wants to control from the top but Brock keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Newman passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Newman is looking to advance position but Brock won't allow it.
Newman passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Brock!
Brock regains half guard.
Newman looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Brock is trying to get back to full guard.
Newman is trying to control the action in half guard but Brock is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Brock wants to improve his position but Newman is controlling well.

Brock trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Newman manages to pass to mount!
Nate Newman has got the better of the ground game so far.
Brock looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Newman is cranking Brock's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Brock! He's tightened the choke and Brock is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nate Newman!
Nate Newman seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
