Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cortez Hanson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andrew Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Johnson does no damage.
Hanson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hanson is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Johnson.

and Hanson counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Johnson is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Hanson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johnson loads up on a big right hand but Hanson slips the punch.

and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hanson moves away.

Hanson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Johnson is trying to defend but Hanson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hanson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hanson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hanson misses with a head shot. Johnson uses the momentum to regain guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hanson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hanson stands up over Johnson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hanson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hanson manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Hanson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Johnson falls off balance throwing a combination

and Hanson counters by moving into the clinch.
Hanson throws a punch but it's blocked by Johnson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cortez Hanson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Johnson is trying to push Hanson away but Hanson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Cortez Hanson.
Hanson wants to clinch up but Johnson keeps it at a distance.
Johnson unleashes a big counter combination but Hanson bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Andrew Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hanson moves away.

Hanson tries to counter by clinching up but Johnson breaks away and moves out of range.

Hanson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Hanson thows a huge punch but Johnson dodges it nicely.
Hanson winds up and cracks Johnson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Hanson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Hanson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hanson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Hanson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Cortez Hanson dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Hanson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Johnson swivels and escapes.
Despite the aggression on Johnson's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Johnson swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hanson.

Andrew Johnson seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Hanson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hanson is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Johnson rolls with it to try and escape but Hanson cranks on the arm and Johnson is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
